It's actually pissing me off thinking about it, because it could totally put a damper on anyone that's hoping for a Varric romance, they might just give up all hope and that makes me so ****** sad...

Question time!:
Bioware treats it's romances as their own story, which means there always has to be some kind of small conflicts for the two characters to overcome. With Varric I assume this would be his feelings for Bianca, but if there's a chance that's not the case, what do you think his 'conflict' could be if he's a romance?

Something to do with the merchant guild maybe ? Someone trying to assassinate him ? I'm not sure really, I think everyone just assumed his conflict would be Bianca.

Random thought but I think Varric would totally be a Frank Sinatra fan, was listening to a few songs today and they fit him like a glove.

Here's one: So far, Varric has been betrayed, lost or otherwise been separated from every one he really cares about.
Bianca--Lost
Hawke--Missing
Bartrand--Loony or dead
Parents--Dead for while
Anders--Betrayed him
Gerav--Betrayed him and dead
Most of the crew after DA2--Whereabouts unknown, so at least missing
Isabela--Missing after the comics
The hang up could simply be something as simple as being afraid to not lose another person he cares about. He could be too scared to get too close, and the player could help him get through that.
Good morning all!

That could definitely work for him, it'd be a fitting story.
Also, we're only 14 pages behind the Cassandra thread. Closing the gap pretty damn quickly.

So do any of you have any theories as to where Bianca (the woman) is? You think she's dead or left Varric for another man/the carta?
I don't think the fade sequence has anything to say, because anything can happen in the fade (like Duncan being undead for the Warden).
I just wonder why Varric can't seem to let her go.
Theories?

Hmm, give me about a day or so to chew over it. I'll leave this tab up so I don't forget to answer it later. In the meantime, I'm getting tired, so my brain isn't working all that hot at the moment.

They've kept Bianca's fate incredibly vague. I think the only thing we've been told is that they were trying to escape something or someone and didn't make it. If I had to guess I'd say she's dead. She asks Varric to stay with her in a fade dream and tells him it will be like a story and that he loves stories. He gets teary eyed and says "Not as much as I loved you." Considering it's past tense, I think she's dead.

Oh, the merchant guild could definitely be a thing. If nothing else, I would love to learn more about it and the Carta and such.
Your avatar is so damn distracting.

Mary Kirby has hinted we'll learn more about Bianca in Inquisition... and has hinted at her not being dead. I wonder if there might be something tricksy there, though. More fade shenanigans? ![]()

My guess would be that she's dead too and the fade sequence helps him move a bit past it (then he might just need a final push from the inq to finally move past it). If there's a quest about it in DAI I think it's about finding out what happened and find closure for Varric as opposed to actually meeting Bianca...
