When is comic con again? (sorry, I know it's been mentioned a few times already, lol)

 

I know a good chunk of the LI's have been confirmed at cons/events... besides Dorian and Sera. Heck, Dorian was confirmed over facebook, of all things... so we never really know, even though it's probably a safe bet for news that big.

 

I can't help but feel like Dorian and Sera were announced differently because they weren't available for straight characters. You want to get that specific information out as fast as possible, and social media was the quick way to do that. As opposed to Cassandra and Cullen, where queer gamers were kinda left hanging for awhile.

 

If that is the case, we can probably guess that our mystery romances will be another big event.

 

(Spellcheck is telling me gamers isn't a word. I don't even know.)

Also, the Dragon Age official page on facebook just posted a picture of Varric, Sera, and Cole, asking which rogue people will take on their team. Guess who everyone is picking?  Our guy is as popular as ever. The Varric hype hasn't died down.

Ok, so I was thinking, and the tweet was probably promotional for until we sleep, and referenced the question from dragon age 2 that people were asking, Bc we would see more about Bianca in until we sleep.

... So when I said we should compile a Master List of Varric support, I really wasn't kidding. Should we start on that now, for lack of anything else to do? I'll start.

 

- Varric has a huge level of popularity with the fanbase, and while I don't think the writers would work their plot around that I don't think they'd ignore it either.

- He's had his looks subtly redesigned, and that redesign fits the look BioWare goes for when they're designing male LIs.

- There's a good chance the last two characters are racegated, and Varric has pretty good reasons for same.

... So when I said we should compile a Master List of Varric support, I really wasn't kidding. Should we start on that now, for lack of anything else to do? I'll start.

 

- Varric has a huge level of popularity with the fanbase, and while I don't think the writers would work their plot around that I don't think they'd ignore it either.

- He's had his looks subtly redesigned, and that redesign fits the look BioWare goes for when they're designing male LIs.

- The Varric/Viv screenshot, could mean nothing but could mean something. People thought it could have been an indirect hint at the last 2 LI's.

- The Hobbit tweet, I stand by this regardless of what was tweeted after.  To do one, then the other when your answer is no is nothing short of evil.

- All other "No way in hell" LI's have already had firm "NO!"'s...Leliana and Cole.

I am just a little bit curious though.  In DA2 Varric was the story teller.  So our view of Varric was from "his" perspective.  Since he is a story teller, whose to say he did not gloss over his part in the Hawke story a bit, cover things up.  In DAI we will be seeing Varric from a different perspective.  Will there be apparent flaws or additional depth that Varric would not have included about himself in the narrative?  What will our inquisitor see when they meet Varric?  And, more importantly will this change our opinion of him?  Please forgive me if I offend, but I still have visions of "Anders" floating through my head.

It's an interesting question actually, I expect Varric to be quite different this time around.

 

Edit:  Not like Anders crazy different though.  I'm just expecting him to be a bit more serious.

I've always followed the theory that Varric's storytelling was more a framing mechanism than a sign that everything he said was a story. Sometimes they'll play with it for laughs (the Scarface pastiche) but generally what you see in game is what happened. If we do see more depth, it'll just be because he's showing a different side of himself to the Inquisitor than he did to Hawke. Just my outlook, though.

My daughter and I both sent emails last year to Bioware letting them know we really wanted Varric and Cullen as romances. At that time I didn't really get on BSN and my daughter still doesn't. So I am hoping there are other people like that out there who have let Bioware know how much we love Varric because we are still hoping to romance him. We are hoping hard!
