I believe he will essentially be the same, but he will have more depth. I really think that there might even be a darker side of our beloved dwarf that was apparent in DA2. Varric did mention that he had dealt with the Coterie in his younger days and he did manage to keep the Coterie off of Anders' doorstep in Darktown. Plus, he was a member of the merchants guild. Varric had "connections" and "informants" that were all part of his dialog, but were never seen by the PC. These tidbits are the shades of Varric I would like to see a bit more.

Oh I agree and I think we will too.

-When an old companion comes back in a bioware sequel , so far they've always been romancable (Garrus, Tali , Anders etc)
Now you've made Canderous Ordo sad.

My daughter and I both sent emails last year to Bioware letting them know we really wanted Varric and Cullen as romances. At that time I didn't really get on BSN and my daughter still doesn't. So I am hoping there are other people like that out there who have let Bioware know how much we love Varric because we are still hoping to romance him. We are hoping hard!
Welcome to the thread, Saramel!
I still don't understand why people on the Romance thread were convinced they were a perfect microcosm of the fanbase. I mean, we're weird. Most of us were posting or lurking on this forum six months before the game came out. Why would anyone think we're typical?

Knights of the Old Republic II wasn't a BioWare game, it was Obsidian.
Edit: ...Not that I would've been sad if Canderous was romanceable.

That's an excellent reason. I'll add it to the list.

I just woke up from a nap. What's going on?
We're making a list of all the reasons Varric will probably be an LI. That way people will have something to cheer them up when they're feeling anxious.

-If it really is a no, the KINDER thing would have been to let down his fans early. Bioware are aware people have wanted him as a romance since DA2. It doesn't seem like them to drag this out this long just to say no.

I'm cut-and-pasting everything into Word for ease of access. Might need someone to tell me how to make it available to everyone after that, though.

Yep. They let Leliana and Morrigan fans know immediately. Cullen and Cass fans know... so Varric is the only returning character they haven't confirmed as yes or no.

They seem to be dragging the last two LI for as long as they can, but I think its been long enough now. ![]()

<MASSIVE UPBEAT HUGS>
Guys, we'll make it. Remember: If they were going to crush our dreams, they would have done so by now. I really think that the DA team has more class than to let the Varric fans twist in the wind for nothing.
I'm putting aside all those comments about "Darth Gaider" and "Sith Lord Allan," and looking at them without the fan tears. I honestly believe that if Varric wasn't a romance, they would have ended this for us. We've told the devs directly that we don't think a dwarf romance is going to happen. We've all been public with the fact that we are ready for no, and that we would be fine if they told as such. We've basically done everything, including directly state, "If you tell us no, we understand."
However, they haven't. In my heart, I still believe that they would have told the fans of the only returning party member if he wasn't a LI. Always keep the faith.

Aw, that's a shame.
... So when I said we should compile a Master List of Varric support, I really wasn't kidding. Should we start on that now, for lack of anything else to do? I'll start.
- Varric has a huge level of popularity with the fanbase, and while I don't think the writers would work their plot around that I don't think they'd ignore it either.
- He's had his looks subtly redesigned, and that redesign fits the look BioWare goes for when they're designing male LIs.
- There's a good chance the last two characters are racegated, and Varric has pretty good reasons for same.
Anyone else?
There was an interview earlier this year before any romances were announced. I believe it was Allen (will double check when I'm back home). Basically, he said romances will be different this time with different personalities, blah blah blah. Varric for instance is very humorous something or other... Then the interviewer asked him if varric was a romance and Allen kinda realized what he said and was like well we aren't announcing anything right now and gaider wouldn't like it if I spoiled things, but let's just say varric still has some inserted issues with Bianca. ..(none of that was direct quote).... I really wish I was home to pull up the interview, does anyone else remember? I read it as against a varric romance before but now I wonder if he slipped and tried to save it with the Bianca comment

@Jewlie: Sorry your day sucked. *hug* if you want it. I am ridiculously huggy these days.

You get my hopes up sweetie! I think if Varric is confirmed then I'll have to do a dwarf rogue, twin blade for my first play through. I've already got my keep choices mapped out for this scenario. I'm gonna have nice day dreams this weekend.

This? Lady Insanity also said that there was no hinting towards a Varric romance, though.
