This? Lady Insanity also said that there was no hinting towards a Varric romance, though.

Eh, could be true, could be after-the-fact spin doctoring to cover up a mistake. I'd like to see the original interview before I decide my personal read on it.

Still... let's not lean too hard on this one, even if it does end up looking good. I'd hate for Allan to get in trouble because he misspoke.

There was an interview earlier this year before any romances were announced. I believe it was Allen (will double check when I'm back home). Basically, he said romances will be different this time with different personalities, blah blah blah. Varric for instance is very humorous something or other... Then the interviewer asked him if varric was a romance and Allen kinda realized what he said and was like well we aren't announcing anything right now and gaider wouldn't like it if I spoiled things, but let's just say varric still has some inserted issues with Bianca. ..(none of that was direct quote).... I really wish I was home to pull up the interview, does anyone else remember? I read it as against a varric romance before but now I wonder if he slipped and tried to save it with the Bianca comment

Let's hope so.  Plus, issues with Bianca doesn't preclude a romance.  We might have to take care of some sort of personal mission for him in order to fully unlock the romance.  Bianca makes the most sense, since he seems to be pretty hung up on her.

I do recommend that we don't spend 5-10 pages going over every little detail of the interview.  We'll drive ourselves crazy and I'd like to see the original as well, if it's out there.

With the Until We Sleep tweet, I've decided that I'm not going to stress it for now.  This was also done before E3 last year, and I don't think the person was asking about DA3/Inquisition.  Of course, even if they were, if they expect DG to answer over twitter like that, they were probably smokin' the really good stuff.  We got more hinting suggesting at a Varric romance than we do against it at this right now.

Here's one that might work for the positive list.  At least, this is how I'm going to try to look at it.

--Cameron Lee stressing that Varric loves Bianca too much to let her go sounds like a red herring.  We know we can switch out his weapon, but we can't get rid of Bianca nor equip it for ourselves.  "Letting Bianca go" in this case could be referring to his crossbow.

I've just had a bad day. So I'm sure you're right !

I saw that you woke up sore, achy and swollen.  I'm sorry you've had a rough day hun.  Here, for you:

Well I hope he won't get in trouble, but I won't be able to find it until tomorrow night probably. I'm heading to a funeral and my cell phone isn't a fan of complex searching out here in the boonies. :(

On the bright side, the forum speculation is keeping me distracted

Oh no hun!  We're here if you want to talk.  I can send you more Snoopy gifs if you ever need them.   <3

Hmm...well, last night we were trying to come up with some theories.  We were talking about where Bianca might have ended up and why they split up.  Thoughts?

This is a different question, but related. I've been thinking about why Bianca might resurface during the game. The obvious possibility is Varric going after her, but he's had ten years and apparently hasn't found her yet, for whatever reason. I've been wondering if Bianca might come to us, to get help from either Varric or the Inquisition.

It's possible, or she's done something to get the attention of the Guild or the Carta or someone else is after her again and seeks us out for peotection in exchange for.... a trade off maybe.

I think that's more likely or we do a mission and we end up crossing paths with her

I could see it. Bianca's always struck me as someone who knows how to get stuff done. Wouldn't surprise me if she's been caught up in one of the crises we'll be dealing with.

One of my theories is that the Carta (whom I really think was the cause of her and Varric's split) has gotten a hold of red lyrium.  Here's what I'm thinking:

Once the division of the Templar Order was done, and (what is now known as) the Red Templars were established, the splinter group faced a serious problem.  Without access to the Chantry's supplies, they were going to be out of lyrium soon.  Even with legal contacts they made on the side, it was probably only a matter of time before the Loyal Templars would find them.

It's possible that they might have heard of exactly what happened to KC Meredith, and how she became very powerful before she died.  Thanks to some red lyrium that the Champion had found.  In my mind, these guys have quite the hubris.  They probably figured that they could master the red lyrium for themselves.  Trying to take notes from Meredith's downfall, they find a sample and begin to experiment.  I could imagine that some of those experiments were brutal, and often fatal.

About that time, the Carta manages to find the Thaig were the red lyrium idol was first discovered all those years ago.  Gazing upon the crystalline structures of red lyrium, the dwarves didn't see the danger.  They saw opportunity.  Word has probably spread that the Templar order had split, and that surely the rebels were going to need lyrium, right?  The timing couldn't have been better.

The Red Templars, facing a lack of fresh red lyrium as well as running low on blue, decided to finally go to the one group that Chantry wouldn't have spies or sympathizers in: The Carta.  Paying an exorbitant sum, the Red Templars set up a smuggling deal with the Carta to go more of the powerful new lyrium.

Now time has passed, and the Red Templars have their new power.  Yet, there is a catch.  More and more members of the Carta are reporting symptoms of madness, confusion, mood swings...and mentions of a song.  The most beautiful song anyone has ever heard.  Trade is not only in danger of being disrupted, but the Carta are starting to lose themselves to the song of the red lyrium.

Bianca has been with the Carta for over ten years now.  Seeing the writing on the wall, she quietly packs and flees, seeking to get away as fast as she could.  Hoping to find help from her contacts still in the Merchant's Guild, she ends up facing the last ghost of her past: Varric.  The man that still filled her heart with regret.  The man that told her his principles were worth more than any riches.  The man that she tried to forget, her first love.

Will her laugh at her misfortune now?  Has he changed so much that he would turn his back on a old friend?  She wouldn't have blamed him, but she had to try.  Her life, and the life of her friends, depended upon it.

Wow, that was wordy.  Sorry about that.

Hey, don't apologize. That was brilliant. I could absolutely see it happening.

Were Varric and Bianca fleeing the Carta, though? Or am I remembering wrong?

Do we think he hasn't found her, or that he hasn't approached her when he did find her? OOOr, is she purposely hiding from him for some reason? I find it hard to believe that with his contacts he wouldn't have even had a lead while in Kirkwall.

@everyone- thanks for the concern. My grandmother passed. We got a few days notice to say goodbye, but it's still rough. Like I said, this is a good distraction. (Please don't think I'm weird!)

It's a Fade Nightmare, so it makes it iffy.  Plus, they could have been fleeing....from an offer they couldn't refuse.  The choice might have been simple: "Join us and get rich, or die and get forgotten."  She might have taken them up on the offer while Varric fled for his life.

No worries. My grandmother passed a month ago, so I know what that's like.

There's a lot of possibilities. Varric might not have been looking at all, if they parted on bad terms (or if she's dead, which some people have suggested). Bianca might have been actively avoiding his contacts, which would imply she has some pretty impressive backing of her own, whether mundane or supernatural. Or she might have stepped into a huge mess and Varric's not in a position to help her.

I don't think you're weird dear, at least not more than any of the rest of us.  <hugs>  Glad we could help keep ya occupied.

As far as your first part, my idea was:

Bianca--"Don't come looking for me.  You have your life and now I have mine.  The Carta wants you dead.  Damn you and your principles, Varric.  We could have had everything together and you blew it.  Now, stay far away from me, otherwise I'll help the Carta kill you myself."

@Foe Thank you.   :)

We won't think your weird, as everyone needs a distraction at a time like this and people deal with grief in different ways.

My condolences. My grandpa passed a few months back , so  I know what it is like.

@Secily: *hugs* I'm sorry to hear about that love. I'm glad you have a place here to keep your mind distracted.

I can really see it happening that way. It would make a lot of sense as to why Varric hasn't looked her up or had any contact with her, the "promise" he's keeping is to stay away.

And the story he'll never tell is how she went to the Carta, while Varric had to walk away.  :)
