Good. Because if the choices were "Have him available as an LI by changing his personality" or "Have him be the Varric we all love but will remain as just a friend", I'd take the latter in a heartbeat.

I didn't mean to upset anyone or ruffle any feathers with my Bianca post.  I also wasn't implying that I'd want Varric to go through a drastic personality shift just for a romance either.  For those last few lines, I was also trying to put out how Bianca might feel.  Her thoughts and fears.

 

I really don't think the DA team is going to pull a huge change on Varric's personality just to get him into a romance.  I'm hoping this quest idea is a way for him to make peace with Bianca and his past.  Not to drastically change my favorite BioWare character.  If they did that, it wouldn't really be Varric anymore.  Romance or not, I still love the guy.

I just wanted to make sure of that.  Sasha, I hope you caught that too.  You know me pretty well, so you'd know I'd never want to have a character personality do a 180 or even a 90 degree shift just for a romance arc.  That would cheapen the quality of the romance, as well as ruin the character.

Well I would hope Varric will change in Inquisition, nothing overly dramatic, but I don't want him to be a static character. I adore Varric, that's why I'm looking forward to seeing his character evolve. As much as I love him in DA2 I'll be a bit dissapointed if his role in Inquisition is too similar to DA2. So I would rather he change a bit and be a romance than stay the exact same and be my best bro again.

Same here, on both counts.  I don't want him to be exactly the same, but I don't want them to just dramatically change up Varric for the sake of a romance.  I would love to romance him, but not like that.

Yeah, I don't think anyone here wants him to go through as drastic a change as Anders did in DA2,I don't mind Varric being a bit more serious but as long as he is still Varric.

I want a chance for him to open up more emotionally. He doesn't have to do it all the time, maybe just one scene or so. He really deflects a lot of his feelings in DA2 so I think a romance would be a great way to explore that side of him.

Thanks. I give myself a hard time because I feel I should type English better and not have slip ups considering how long I've lived in America and spoke English.

 

I'm also a teacher who teaches ELA to students during the school year...So, there's that. >_<

You do a great job.  Most Americans don't try to pay attention to grammar, syntax or spelling, so you're certainly way ahead of the game there.

It wouldn't bother me.  My best friend of over 15 years moved to this country from Russia in 1990.  His accent is largely gone too, except when he's really tired, drunk (he doesn't drink anymore,) or really angry.

Please do.  We can break out The List™ whenever we're feeling down.  Or for newcomers that join the thread...which is happening more and more.  

 

By the way, in the romance thread I was talking about race-gating.  Since I think one of the last two LIs will be gated (like we all suspect Varric would be if/when he's confirmed,) and perhaps one existing LI being gated as well, this was my thoughts about why I want to know about who going to be race-gated before release:

 

 

 

I'm not going to lie.  I'd be very angry if they waited until release to tell us about who is going to be race-gated.  One of my initial fears when that announcement was made is that there would be a nasty surprise waiting for me.  One of the few times I was actively angry at a game was Baldur's Gate 2, as a male character.  Race-gating was not a welcome surprise and it made me feel like I was being punished for playing the "wrong" race.   

 

While I know that certainly wasn't the case at all, and obviously no punishment was intended, it really did not leave a good impression on me.  In fact, that's still one of the few things that BioWare has done that made me grit my teeth.   I would have preferred knowing about that ahead of time, and it would have allowed me to plan things out better.  I want to experience the romance content, but I'd like to know a little bit of what I'm in for first.  

 

If, just as an example that I'm pulling out of the air, Cassandra won't go for Qunari men, then I'd like to know in advance that she is gated against them.  I do plan on rolling a male character down the road to check out her romance.  I don't want to roll up the wrong race and find out that I have to reroll because she's gated against the non-human race I picked.

 

I'd rather they reveal the race-gating at some point before the game comes out.  Especially if they race-gate Dorian or Sera.  I personally think is extremely unlikely, but it could still happen.  That would be a rage inducing moment, to have the first gay and lesbian LIs race-gated without warning the players before release.
