It wasn't so bad... some people may just come in and say why they wouldn't like or don't think a Varricmance would work, and we show them our list of awesome reasons why it would.

Sasha came in and said she didn't think Varric should be an LI, I asked her why and everything spiraled out of control for a bit. I think we're good now.

I dunno, I think we kinda forgot ourselves for a moment and started responding to posts we shouldn't have, which turned things a bit bitter for a moment there.

Sorry, was playing Plants v Zombies.  Give me a min and I'll dig it up.  

 

Edit: Found it.  Due some issues folks had with the final couple of lines, I'm leaving that part out.

One of my theories is that the Carta (whom I really think was the cause of her and Varric's split) has gotten a hold of red lyrium.  Here's what I'm thinking:

 

Once the division of the Templar Order was done, and (what is now known as) the Red Templars were established, the splinter group faced a serious problem.  Without access to the Chantry's supplies, they were going to be out of lyrium soon.  Even with legal contacts they made on the side, it was probably only a matter of time before the Loyal Templars would find them.  

 

It's possible that they might have heard of exactly what happened to KC Meredith, and how she became very powerful before she died.  Thanks to some red lyrium that the Champion had found.  In my mind, these guys have quite the hubris.  They probably figured that they could master the red lyrium for themselves.  Trying to take notes from Meredith's downfall, they find a sample and begin to experiment.  I could imagine that some of those experiments were brutal, and often fatal.

 

About that time, the Carta manages to find the Thaig were the red lyrium idol was first discovered all those years ago.  Gazing upon the crystalline structures of red lyrium, the dwarves didn't see the danger.  They saw opportunity.  Word has probably spread that the Templar order had split, and that surely the rebels were going to need lyrium, right?  The timing couldn't have been better.

 

The Red Templars, facing a lack of fresh red lyrium as well as running low on blue, decided to finally go to the one group that Chantry wouldn't have spies or sympathizers in: The Carta.  Paying an exorbitant sum, the Red Templars set up a smuggling deal with the Carta to go more of the powerful new lyrium.

 

Now time has passed, and the Red Templars have their new power.  Yet, there is a catch.  More and more members of the Carta are reporting symptoms of madness, confusion, mood swings...and mentions of a song.  The most beautiful song anyone has ever heard.  Trade is not only in danger of being disrupted, but the Carta are starting to lose themselves to the song of the red lyrium.

 

Bianca has been with the Carta for over ten years now.  Seeing the writing on the wall, she quietly packs and flees, seeking to get away as fast as she could.  Hoping to find help from her contacts still in the Merchant's Guild, she ends up facing the last ghost of her past: Varric.  The man that still filled her heart with regret.  The man that told her his principles were worth more than any riches.  The man that she tried to forget, her first love.

But I'll confess that I'm a little torn, Solas's character type has been on my romance wishlist since before I even played DA2 and since he's likely to be the other male LI after Varric... I'm very very torn.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I rather liked that movie but it'll be weird going back and watching it knowing he also played Varric.

Yeah, I don't understand why anyone would rather straight? I'd personally rather not all bi, but since that's already been confirmed to be the case, I hope Bi for each individual LI...

 

It's a rather confusing duality.

Wow I hadn't considered that there's room for 1 mage and 1 rogue LIs to go with the two warriors and advisers... seem so obvious for it to be a mage and a rogue LI. I mean it would fit so perfectly!

My wonder for this afternoon:

At the Building a Better Romance panel, one of the devs used "three straight options, a couple of bi options and a couple of gay options" when she was talking about the division of romances.
It was said with little hesitation, which makes me wonder whether she started off with a known figure for her example...

I'm actively hoping both LI's remaining are bi, for fairness, but if she was using a known number, it could point to Varric...

There, there it's ok *hugs* we just need to wait a bit longer  .

Hey guys... I was just wondering about something. What do you think Batrand and Varric's relationship was like when they were younger? Based on what he told Fenris is was never a very happy one, but then again Varric lies a lot, especially about things concerning his own personal history. As much as he was ready to ring Bartrand's neck, he either ended up hating the fact that he had to kill him, or holding out hope that he could help his brother by taking him to the sanitarium. 

 

He's also mentioned before that Bartrand had a lot on his plate dealing with the merchants guild, and should Anders knock Bartrand back to his senses, Bartrand's greatest concern is to preserving their house.
