On the subject of raptr, I just want to let you guys know that being voted into the top 3 won't necessarily mean the questions will be considered to be the top 3. The best questions will be determined by raptr staff, and they might not choose the most popular questions (especially if the questions are about romance, as those types of questions tend to get asked frequently, and their unlikely to pick one out of several similar questions). However, hopefully our likes will get Varric the attention he deserves .

Well, he is one.  Love or hate 'Bela, she was very correct about that observation.

I was being careful.  I've heard a lot of mixed reactions about 'Bela, so I try not to assume anything about any poster.  For me, she's my second favorite romance and my second favorite friendship in DA2.  

 

My favorite romance is Anders.  I fell in love with his romance before I ever got the chance to play Awakening.  My favorite friendship...well, I think you guys can safely guess.

Nobody better be hatin' her on my watch! Although that doesn't stop the Anders hate...   To be honest, I really don't judge anyone for disliking either character (as long as they aren't purposely trolling). They are my favorite DA2 companions and LIs, but they are also both 'love em or hate em' types, which I guess is my thing. 

 

Besides Varric, I should add. Varric is just... no there's no reason to be hatin' on him.

Yeah, I have actually seen a post on the official facebook page where someone said "Am I the only person who finds him annoying and can't stand him?" that had a disturbing amount of likes... but I suppose he would just say "you can't please everyone." xD

Eh, haters are gonna hate, as the kids would say.  For the most part, I haven't seen a lot of dislike towards him in general.  Overall, he's probably one of the most popular DA characters that causes the least amount of drama and fights among the general fanbase.

Yes, I would definitely agree that he seems to be one of the most popular characters out of them all. He never brought along any drama or agenda like the others, so it's pretty hard to dislike the guy unless you just somehow find him annoying, I suppose. I really appreciate having a character everyone for the most part can enjoy in a flame-war free setting... I can't say the same for my other favorites, and huge debate scares me away usually... so it's very nice. 

 

Maybe that's it... he just isn't crazy or dramatic enough for the writers to make into an LI. >.>

Hey, the ME team did it for Garrus after they darkened the mortality of the character a little.  Since the DA team has mentioned that Varric has been through a lot, perhaps he's been roughed up enough to qualify as a real BioWare romance.  

 

I guess that's because he is basically the one of the Characters that cause the least amount of Drama and Fights in the Story itself. Which is a very good Thing.

No kidding.  I think he's probably the only one that doesn't get some serious hate in the main games.

I honestly feel like that only applies to DA2, the writers said they needed him to be the Only Sane Guy then.

 

But during the events of DA:I, with the fact they mention he isn't bros/buddies with at least two characters (Iron Bull & Cass) I guess all that can change.

Oh, and he still has more likes than Cullen on the official DA Facebook fanpage (Cullen's 4.8k to Varric's 6.1k). So I am assuming Varric is still a mainstream fave.

They played it for laughs, but ya gotta think how traumatic it would be for someone to experience nightmares for the first time as an adult. Varric seems to have a lot of bottled up emotions, consider how they might manifest in his dreams. We could have a dwarven insomniac on our hands.

That doesn't sound funny, that sounds scary.  He has been to the Fade at least once (in the comics,) twice if you brought him with you in Night Terrors.   That's not the same as dreaming night after night.

Well the scary stuff was just me extrapolating. The original post kinda took it in the opposite direction and theorized about the more ahem...  pleasurable side of dreaming. 

 

Also, he was facing someone else's dream, not his own, in Night Terrors and he was conscious while doing it. In the comics the magister was pretty much using his "dreams" to seduce Varric into staying, that scene with Bianca was almost surely orchestrated. So Varric's never really had the full experience of a dream before.
