Y'know when you really think about it, that picture is just depressing. It's a guy so lonely that he's literally talking to himself.

I hope so, but I can confirm that there really are people like that out there. Trust me, I've been to a few conventions. It's kinda creepy how they can't seperate fictional characters from the real world.

Sorry I spend too much time around people to whom innuendo is a second nature, it rubs off...you can have that one ;)

I'm okay with people marrying/loving fake/inanimate things. More worried about those obsessed with the unwilling living.

Did he count it as cheating if a game cartridge was inserted?

Yeah, that's an actual problem, the other one is just weird.

I can just imagine that. "You ****** ! I saw you insert Mario 64 earlier, don't lie to me !"

I worry the line between those two can get blurry for some people, though. Which can cause problems going both ways.

I'd say they're both different shades of weird, one that imposes on the rights of others and one that doesn't.

Sure, but what's the difference between being totally convinced you're in a relationship with an anime character, or being totally convinced you're in a relationship with someone who lives in your apartment building but you've never spoken to? Obviously one of these people is real, but these people think the anime character is real too. How do you make sure someone will do one but not the other?

You don't really, either way these people are a little off mentally. All you can do is report them if they start harassing the living.

They both represent a danger to themselves/others in certain circumstances. Most are harmless if delusional but a few take it to extremes.

For example Guy X is in love with Princess Peach. He spends hours rescuing her, drawing her, talking to her and fantasising about her. He goes to a convention, sees a girl dressed as Peach. Only, for him she is Peach. She's finally there, finally truly obtainable and of course she loves him too, haven't they had hours of conversations about this? He doesn't understand why she is reluctant to go with him, why she doesnt seem happy to see him.

And that's how crime dramas are born.

I really don't understand that level of attachment to fictional characters, but as long as they aren't hurting anyone I don't see any issue.

I'd be more worried about people who imagine a relationship with someone who actually exists (like a celebrity).
