They both represent a danger to themselves/others in certain circumstances. Most are harmless if delusional but a few take it to extremes.

For example Guy X is in love with Princess Peach. He spends hours rescuing her, drawing her, talking to her and fantasising about her. He goes to a convention, sees a girl dressed as Peach. Only, for him she is Peach. She's finally there, finally truly obtainable and of course she loves him too, haven't they had hours of conversations about this? He doesn't understand why she is reluctant to go with him, why she doesnt seem happy to see him.

And that's how crime dramas are born.

Yeah, it's... I dunno. I guess there are always questions in civilized society about how free we are to prevent crime, rather than dealing with it after the fact. Obviously I don't think obsessing over someone fictional should be illegal, but that level of idealization can be dangerous, and I'm not comfortable going, "Hey, they haven't hurt anyone yet, NBD." I dunno if there's a good answer for that.

... SO, HOW 'BOUT THAT CHEST HAIR? PRETTY CHOICE, RIGHT?

Sometimes I forget I'm not a walking episode of Law and Order.

Was anyone else shocked that Varric's first clip from DAI had his chest covered? Seriously, BioWare marketing, how did this seem like a good idea to you?

Morning guys.  Interesting conversation I see. :P

@Foe To me, Varric being covered up was symbolic.  I took it as a sign of Varric has changed.  Not for the worse really, but more like that he isn't going to be as open as he has been in the previous game.  When the developers confirmed that he wasn't going to be everyone's best buddy this time around, it just validated my hunch.

It also implied to me that Varric has gotten a little more serious.  All jokes aside, there's a time and place to expose your chest to the world, and when demons are showing up, you should keep your vitals covered.  If the first trailer (when he's covered up) is telling the truth, he'll be either at the Fade breach or very close to it when all hell breaks loose.

Definitely, he seems surprised and upset when he kneels near the bodies. Not that bodies aren't always upsetting, But Varric has seen lots of death. My money is on him being present when the Fade Breach happens.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. Most people at cons, especially the ones who dress up, are really cool people. Down to earth and friendly. Theirs not THAT many weird con-goers.

Listen I love the chest hair, I mean seriously gotta dig that chest hair. But I have the worst weakness for neckerchiefs. It's blasphemous to admit it, I know, but Varric will be keeping that neckerchief throughout the game. There's just something about them, I can't quite put my finger on it, but they add a certain something to the character that really appeals to me. If anyone has any ideas of what that something is, please tell me, because I'd love to know :P.

Also everything Nat said about it symbolizing change and all that.

I'm sure you'll still get a dose of chest hair. Hopefully in a love scene.

I've thought that for awhile.  Plus, it would make sense that one of the first characters recruited is going to be the returning party member.  Cass showing up damned near immediately makes sense too.  If you didn't have the Exiled Prince DLC, those were the last two people you saw before the credits rolled.  Also, she's also a returning character, albeit not a returning party member.

I have a feeling that it's going to be Cass and Varric to start, and we pick up Vivienne shortly after that.  I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out a part of the trailer after Cass gives her "you're the only threat I see" speech where Varric is telling her to calm down. For at least at little while, I really see kinda a good cop/bad cop routine between Varric and Cass at the beginning.  Varric is more likely to be forgiving and hear someone out.  Cass seems much more of a Joe Friday, by-the-books kind of person to start, and I think she'll be more pragmatic than Varric for sure.

Sounds noble to me, salroka.   ;)

I am all on board with the neckerchiefs, I just don't see why he can't wear them and leave the rest of his chest exposed. C'mon, Varric, you need to wear two pieces of clothing from the waist up? That's just greedy.

I think it would be interesting to see Varric be wary of a Qunari quizzy just after the breach. I don't think Varric is racist of course. But he has reasons to not trust Qunari immediately.

That is one thing about the potential of race-gating.  Well, the only thing really.  One of the things that I thought could have been improved in Origins was the way that party members as well as NPCs reacted to your race.  Sure, there was some remarks here and there, but not many.  I'd want Varric to react to my race, whatever is was.

Varric's general thoughts that I can imagine about the Quizzy on first appearance.

Human--"...Hopefully they doesn't come with a +1."

Elf--"An elf?  I wonder if it's a Dreamer.  Hopefully not a blood mage.  Seen enough of those to last a lifetime."

Qunari--"Maybe they are here to hurt us, but let's give them a chance to explain."

Dwarf--"Are you bullshitting me?  Maker, I need a drink."

Oh yeah, more comments on race would be great. As well as possibly using the Quizzy's last name a few times.

You're going to have to rearrange his wardrobe a bit. His usual ridiculously long V-neck does not work well with the neckerchief. I have however, observed that neckerchiefs work very well when one is wearing an open long coat with no other layers underneath :P.

Elf- Are magical glowy marks becoming an elven fashion statement or something?

Another one for a dwarf: "I might need to rethink my stances about dwarves falling into the sky."

They've promised us that we'll have our last name spoken on occasion, so we don't have to answer to a title all the time.  :P

Well, that's neat. Seems like they've really worked hard on attention to detail. Which was really what held DA2 back from being great.

That's what I've been hoping! <3

Also, I'm really excited about how there will be more response to race/class and such, and since my first Inquisitor is going to be Qunari I plan to hopefully show him that the race also has a good side ~

Then I hope he's not racegated against Qunari so you get to romance him.

I'm holding off on deciding my first character until I know what's going on with racegates. I was planning a qunari mage, but, well.
