Well, that's neat. Seems like they've really worked hard on attention to detail. Which was really what held DA2 back from being great.

I found out a sad fact: EA rushed DA2 so badly, they had 12 months to get the game out the door after the end of Witch Hunt.  It still blows my mind that EA would do that to a popular selling game. Then again, EA in 2010-2012 wasn't exactly giving their dev teams in most of their games the lead time they needed. Among many many issues that I won't get into at the moment.  <_<

The game is flawed but when you think about that short amount of time (so tiny for a big budget game,) it's really amazing what they did.  The story is indeed memorable, as are most of the NPCs.  I really enjoy a lot of MotA, but it does make me a little melancholy.  It's like a glimpse of what the game could have been if only EA had given BW/the DA the time it needed.

Still, I will always defend my love of the game.  It had some of my favorite BioWare characters to date. Also, that game, as rushed as as it was, gave us all Varric.  'Nuff said.   ;)

It's really this fastracked development cycle that hurt the game.  I know that every game has reused assets, but the lack of time is why we had The Cave™, or The Only House in Hightown™ so obvious to us.  I know they wanted to do a better job of it, but there was only so much they could do.  Being BioWare, they focused on their strength: The characters and the story of the game.  I'm betting Act 3 would have worked out to be a lot more smooth had they had they time.

This also is why you get "fun" bugs, like Zevran bonking Isabela no matter what; Exiled Prince not playing nice with Legacy after a patch, and a few minor ones.  They had about another 3-5 months for the rest of the DLCs, then EA tried to rush them again.  Thankfully, they gave them another year of lead time.  As a result, more romances, more races...a little more of everything.

I'm holding off on deciding my first character until I know what's going on with racegates. I was planning a qunari mage, but, well.

Currently mine depends on whether Varric is straight or not. I was planning on going Male Dwarf warrior, but I have no issues going female if he's straight.

Oh, I don't know if anyone saw. But the Dragon Age panel at Comic-Con is on the 25th. Hopefully we'll get the last two LI's confirmed.

They've dragged it out long enough. It's really not funny anymore.

If it's a "no" I'll be more upset that they dragged it out this long than anything else really...

Also a factor, yeah.

I am pretty optimistic that he'll be bi, but, better to be sure first.

I just want to play a mage qunari/kossith so bad to rub it in Qunari culture's face, but if Varric ends up an LI gated to qunari... that will be the only thing to change my mind. xD

Glad I'm not the only one here who's first play through may be influenced by Varric.

I really have my heart set on a Qunari mage but the chest hair is too powerful to resist.

I'm highly suspecting a Varric confirmation, followed by Viv. If not Varric I'm hoping for Blackwall but that doesn't seem likely. Solas I'm just not interested in at all. So if he gets the last slot I'm either going straight and getting with Cass. Or going female and getting with Sera.

Cullen.  Just imagine what Varric would say about that.

I already have, and posted the results on the party banter thread.  I'm not a cullenite, but the notion of Varric making jokes about the templar and the saarabas are just too good to ignore.

Provided the remaining two LI are gated, and not two already mentioned.  As far as racegating goes, it could be anyone but Iron Bull.

Wait, DA2 was created in just one year? I'm pissed off and impressed at the same time. With what they did in that ridiculously short time-span, now I think of all the wasted potential and weep.

I'm a little weird - I'm about 99% sure I'll romance Varric first if he's bi, but if, say, Dorian is racegated, I'll still play a character who could hypothetically go for him. I like to keep my options open the first time, even if I'm almost completely sure I won't actually take them.

Agreed and agreed.  Still, I remain hopeful that BioWare wouldn't do that to us.  As I rediscovered last night, I'm not good at being stressed out.  So I'll take a page from the Dude and just abide for a little while.  It couldn't hurt.   :)

Yeah, there's an interview about it floating around, but 12 months to follow up what was one of the best selling games in the company's history.  That's just ridiculous for a AAA game.  <_<

Oh, no doubt.  Legacy was another glimpse too, and it actually tied back into the story of the Grey Wardens.  Honestly, it kind of sucks that it's a DLC and not apart of the main game.  I felt like the end of Awakening was the end of the first chapter of the darkspawn.  DA2 felt largely disconnected from the events of the previous game.  Legacy, on the other hand, not only tied the stories together nicely, but also gave us a preview of a dangerous presence lurking in the Wardens.

Note to self: Set the flag in the Keep to where the half-ghouled Warden is Cory.  The mage looks too damned normal.

Yes! *brofist* I find all of the characters interesting enough, but Varric and Blackwall are the two I'd be really excited to romance. If they're also the two unromanceable ones, I will probably be drunk-posting.

Oh I understand that. Many of my files were planned one way and turned out completely different. That's the fun of roleplaying games and exactly why I never plan 100%, I just think "This is what I will probably do...probably." lol

I think Sir Blackwall is very attractive but we already have a male human warrior LI (Cullen) and I'd rather have more variety..

Solas isn't really my bag from what I've seen but that could change when the game comes out. I wasn't interested in Isabela pre-DA2 but she ended up being my favorite LI in that game so you never really know. That said I absolutely love the folks in the Solas thread so I'll do my best to be happy for them.

I need to come u[ with a play for her.  And Cass.  And each race/class combo at least once.

I forgot one of the best parts about Legacy: Learning the story of how the House Tethras earned it's nobility.  That was very cool, and it was a nice reminder of Varric's dwarven heritage.

If one of the last remaining romances isn't Varric, I'm kind of stumped at the moment.  I'm not planning a "nomance," but I'll probably have to play the game to get to know the characters first.  I do know that Dorian is going to be my second romance, for sure.

Wow, you romanced Alistair and then let Loghain live ? I gotta give you credit, I've never had the heart to not kill Loghain if I was even friendly with Alistair.

Even Varric thinks so, and Varric spends every other line talking about why he's grateful to be a surface dwarf.

I'll have multiple world states as well, but I'm thinking about my first one to start.  How I'd want my world state to look when I get my Lady Cadash made and the game fired up.

He usually does, yeah.  A nice bit of character growth for him in that story about his House.

Pretty much feel exactly the same as all of the above! I'm Varric > Iron Bull/Sera > Solas. Solas mostly just intrigues me and I think a romance arc with him would be super interesting... but I will no doubt be sad for awhile if he ends up an LI and Varric does not. :/ Really want a dwarfmance finally, and I think the fact they made a qunarimance suggests they're starting to realize people want more than just human/elf LI's. Although I wish there was the possibility for a non human/elf female LI... but ah well, maybe in the future.

I actually kind of like coming into it naturally, and seeing how things develop. I was pretty much avoiding spoilers until Gaider announced that racegates were a thing and that not all races would have the same number of LIs. Then I panicked and had to know everything, natch.

I wonder how the events of DA2 affected Varric, will he a bit wiser or weary of all of the conflict that's across Theadas. Will he feel guilty for what happened to the Red Templars?
