Thank you, that means a lot. We try.
We largely spent several months feeling pretty down. Varric really seemed unlikely to be a romance and a lot of the Varric fans on the forums just stopped supporting for a Varricmance. They just figured with Bianca and no previous dwarven romances, many of us (including me) figured that the rest of the companions was going to have a better shot. I remember being honestly surprised when they didn't announce Solas as a LI. When we restarted this thread, there was maybe 4-5 of us posting with any sort of regularity.
I've loved Varric every since I fired up DA2, and I thought I was kind of alone on wanting a romance. When I found these fine ladies and gents, I saw that was I not alone, but others felt the same way. I decided that optimism was our best course of action. We decided to shrug off the naysayers, and start having some fun again.

We also all agree that sometimes the forum can forget that we're all video game nerds that just fell in love with this world and it's characters. Rather than try to fight, we try to celebrate that inclusion. This thread isn't just for those that want a romance, but truly just love Varric as a friend too. All we ask that everyone remain respectful.
I can also say that most if not all of us are rooting for the other characters. Seriously, we feel like we've already half won. Even if Varric isn't a LI, we get our best bud back, and for many of us, one of our all time favorite BioWare characters. The romance would be awesome, but just having him back in our party makes a lot of us smile. Most of us have also been wondering if we can romance Blackwall or Solas, even though Varric is the first choice for most of us. The companions all look great this time around, and we enjoy celebrating that too.
Some of us have gone through some rough patches in our personal lives lately, but we always get through with either fan art (by the way, I'm showing my husband the "direct control pic,) jokes, music or fan theories about Varric. We really try to leave any drama or stress at the door. We kinda consider ourselves the underdogs, no pun intended. Not only is there some doubt about a romance with Varric due to Bianca and that whole mess, but also because BioWare has never done a dwarven romance before.
We've now decided to cast doubt to the wind, and just have fun. Either Varric will be a LI, or the devs will have to tell us such. The nay-sayers can't get us down, only the devs can. Besides, the Cullenites were an inspiration to me to stay upbeat. I didn't hang out in the thread much, but I used to see some of the levels of hate that fan base got. I figured if they can keep their heads held high for 5 years, I think I'll manage for a few more months.
You are so upbeat and nice. Can I stay? I want to romance Varric, just about as much as I want to romance Cullen with a FemQunMage. And that is saying a lot. I do nightly blood rituals under the moonlight just to have the chance.

I'll be at PAX Prime (again) this year so that would seriously make it the best PAX Prime ever. Or the worst. So I'll either be the girl screaming her head off with joy in the Bioware panel or the girl who flees the room crying.
In all seriousness though I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and I'd like to know before then. Just so I can stop fixating on it and actually relax.
While I normally just lurk this thread, I, too, am going to PAX Prime for another time.
I remember the pterodactyl screeches when Qunari was announced as a playable race.

Ah, good times, good times. That was some panel. I didn't actually think they'd show footage. I can't remember if I screamed harder when I first saw Varric up on the screen or during the Qunari announcement. Anyway I'm pretty sure I shattered some eardrums.

I never really got into the Sims but I used to be crazy about Roller-coaster Tycoon, so I understand the feeling.
The second game (or maybe the third) had a zoo expansion pack and I remember building this coaster that would shoot straight off the tracks and drop directly into the gorilla exhibit. Those poor, poor people.
