Ever since DA2, I've seen Cullen more as a potential comrade-in-arms over a potential lover.  I've been really wanting to talk to a sane templar about this whole mess since I finished DA2, and Cullen has had some subtle but real character growth over the years.  I look forward to seeing his perspective, and I can't be happier for his fans.  He seems like an interesting guy, that's almost too honorable for his own good.  

 

However, I've never had my eye on him as a LI, though I welcome the chance if I want to later.  This might sound shallow, but part of it is his looks. The blonde haired/blue eyed/military types have never really done much for me.  The DA team surprised me with Alistair (who has much the same looks,) so I'm remaining open minded about Cullen.  I certainly never hated the guy, and I've been hoping for to see a bigger role from him for awhile.  I was actually a little disappointed that he isn't a full-fledged party member, but his role certainly doesn't look small this time.  

 

 

That's pretty much my feeling on Cullen. I think I'd be more interested in his romance arc if the competition wasn't so stiff this game. We've got Varric coming back, and we've got four new people who all seem pretty interesting. Cullen doesn't exactly grab me... but he's a great character who I did really like in DA2. I'm sure his romance arc will also be good.

I've had that happen to me before, with someone crying over their ex on my chest.  When it's a guy you're interested in, and you're about to have your first...moment, and that actually happens, the fantasy is much better than the reality.  Trust me.    I doubt it would be better with women doing the same.

Yeah the snot would probably get everywhere too...

I think the biggest hurdle to Varric being an LI is that's leading man stuff. Varric prefers to be the supporting cast.

Actually this makes him a great candidate, a love who does what he can in the background to make his lady's life that much easier to be the background which she can shine, The dark night that lets her be the star she needs to be.

He prefers sitting in Kirkwall and leaving the adventuring stuff to someone else. This game seems to be pushing him out of his comfort zone a lot.

still not convinced he didn't pay or was watching the thief/you for a long long time before interceding and the thief got paid on the side. What a better way to introduce yourself and totally his style

That was one thing that DA2 did very, very well. Every time you meet a companion character, not only do they get to act like a badass, their personalities come across pretty much immediately.

Do both, I'd gladly read both, the kid one cos chibi Varric is a cute so kid Varric will be cuter and the secret admirer one, because we rarely if ever see Varric not knowing something.

I know DA2 isn't a perfect game by any means. Its flawed as all hell really.

 

But i still think its gets way more crap than it deserves. It has quite a few flashes of pure brilliance.

 

Its getting me fairly excited for DA:I anyway. if nothing else, having Varric as a party member again is a glorious thing.

I loved this about Varric's entrance as well and my first thoughts were, that was awesome and this one is going to be trouble, but so worth it.... oh so very worth it.

Whenever I like something popular, I kind of accept the fact that, eventually, I'm going to feel the need to say, "Well, I like [thing] but I wouldn't call myself a fan of [thing]," because eventually the louder parts of the fanbase get so unhinged that I don't want to be associated with them. DA2/ME3 was pretty much that moment for me. Yeah, DA2 was rushed, yeah, ME3's ending had some serious flaws, but the negatives got blown so absurdly out of proportion it's embarrassing.
