Tsundere is a term used for characters who appear to be cold and uncaring on the outside, but are actually romantic and loving on the inside. Generally as someone gets closer to them, they become softer and more gentle while still trying to retain the facade of being uninterested.

So, basically that Ice Queen Trope then?

Soo apparently they're under the impression that we're going to run screaming into every thread about how we got Varric and everyone else didn't get their choice.

I'll feel sad for out fellow brothers and sisters in the Solas and Blackwall threads, and I'll give them my most humble sympathies. But I think we're all entitled to be happy. Better yet, it's just a game. If Varric doesn't get the spot I'll be disappointed but I'm not gonna pout about it. I'll just move on.

To be 110% honest, I will pout. But I won't be a jerk about it online lol

And then my frown will be turned upside down when playing another fantastic Bioware game. :)

Yup, Morrigan is a good example.

There's an overlap, but not quite. Ice Queens start out cold, but as time passes they become more emotional. Tsunderes are emotional, but they don't want to admit it, so they try to cover it up by acting cold. It's easy for an ice queen to slip into tsundere territory because they're not handling their awakening emotions well.

Tsundere is basically pretending to be cruel but truly they're not.

It's one of the reasons I like romancing Morrigan.  My first game, I didn't trust her.  The second I decided to see what happens if I did.

Varric, I see similar, but instead of trying to cover his emotions by not having any, he does so with humor.  What's the trope for that?

Pretty much this, Ice Queens are more often then not genuinely cold to start and open up later. While Tsunderes were always emotional and just deny it. The difference isn't always noticeable, but it's there.

I have decided I don't like Characters that embody that Trope. I'll stick to me sweet, shy, romantic Girls then. Both in Terms of my Characters and in Terms of favored LIs in Stories.

But thank you all for explaining it to me. I have another Reason to stay away when People use these "dere" terms then. Although it's not as bad as when People embody that "Yandere" stuff. That's really dumb.

Not sure what the name for that is. I know in anime you've got Tsundere (as described), Yandere (pretending to be a sweet girl but is actually homocidal) and Kyundere (unable to convey any emotions but is very emotional inside).

Not much that I've noticed. The Romance thread went Lord of the Flies again.

Ah the old Yandere trope, not really something I like but it does make for entertaining characters.

Why are people so viscous in the Romance thread? :'( I don't understand why they treat certain wording as an attack and attack back. (No, I don't mean "they" as in everyone there either.)

Can I have a huggle?

*Hugs* The common posters in the romance thread are very, very sensitive about this sort of thing. I recommend just lurking instead of posting.

The Romance thread is for people who are desperately trying to convince themselves they'll get everything they want. Get in the way of that, they start taking it personally.

Like serial killers, really. Never want to meet one myself, but they make for good television.

Thank you guys. I was trying to turn a negative into a positive but I know people are sensitive. :/ Myself included; I just didn't expect... That.
I think I should just avoid it completely.
Again, y'all are awesome.

So I've never been on the romance thread (I just found these forums actually). But what did they say? :/

I'm not too big on Tsundere myself, they tend to be a bit overused in romantic animes. I prefer my characters to screw up because they're oblivious to their/others emotions, not because they're in denial :P. I'm more of a fan of the "earnest absent minded professor" or the "I've gotten so used to using humor to cover up my pain, I can't really express myself appropriately anymore" types.

Oh, hey, a meme I almost missed. I'm... gonna run my M!Qunquisitor Ash through this, even if that probably won't be canon, why not.

6) Who would lead in ballroom dancing?

Varric would start off leading since he knows the steps. They might switch for some dances, particularly if there's dipping involved. (A dwarf dipping a qunari is just a disaster waiting to happen.)

The featured Prompt Post from last week seems to be trying its darnest to make the "dwarf dipping the Qunari" thing work. :P Your inquisitor sounds pretty darn cute overall.

Stepford Smiler, it has multiple varieties but Varric is definitely one of them.

Thanks! I'll probably have to change him a lot when we find out more about the story, but for now I'm pretty pleased with him.

Honestly, if anyone could make that move work, it'd be Varric. It'd just be easier on both of them to make the height difference work for them, not against them.
