Well, technically speaking, that's not Varric in the flesh, but rather a mental representation of himself. So maybe in the Fade, Varric has less chest hair and better muscle tone.

lol idk why but when I saw this I felt a little, tiny, bit betrayed. She's been like my shining star for Varric love, I was shocked to see Varric as number two.
However, she's done work with Bioware and they know her and her work. Maybe her love for Varric has influenced them? Maybe? -crossfingers-

Really she's done work for them? What was it?
And she crossed over onto team Blackwall awhile ago, so the "betrayal" feels less fresh for me . I actually discovered her art in the Blackwall thread back when it was moving faster than the Varric thread, so really I've only ever known her as a Blackwall fan. She clearly still has a special place in her heart for Varric though . She was a Varric fan a whole lot longer than she's been a Blackwall fan after all .

People have also pointed out that it's similar to AOT's poster. So if you want to know what the love child of the AOT poster, and the Dragon Age Inquisition poster would like, look no further than the poster for the latest Hobbit.
Hell the Hobbit poster even shares the same "ambiguously gendered protagonist" with DAI's poster. We all know it's Bard of course, but someone unfamiliar with the Hobbit wouldn't be able to tell.

Man that hurts. Yeah I follow her on deviantart so when I slowly saw her add a lot of blackwall art and thought, oh he's nice. But she recently posted a "hypothetical romance" bit of art with Varric and it hit my heart real hard :/
Betrayal is overdramatic but yeah. Twas sad.
