True, but I'm sure he'd keep trying regardless, I don't see him just throwing in the towel because he's run into a dead-end.
I'm not saying he did give up. Wouldn't be surprised if while all those years in Kirkwall he kept sending out feelers for information. It may even be one reason he joins the Inquisition because we have better intelligence gatherers.

He had access to Hawke in DA2, someone proven to be able to get just about anything done. If you don't enlist the help of someone like that, I can only surmise that there is no hope... which, to me, can only mean she is dead. Or at the least he believes her to be.
The one time you really get a chance to sit down and talk to anyone even in the Carta, not a single question is raised by Varric about her whereabouts. No mention of her in all the years Varric travels with Hawke. His personal storyline had nothing to do with her.
I simply can't believe that Varric spent the better part of a decade tooling around with Hawke, making jokes, enjoying life, going day-by-day, and carrying around the knowledge that the woman he loves is suffering in captivity somewhere. It just makes no sense to me.

Yes but she's not just gone? We know she was hunted, we know who was after her and we know that Varric works with the damn organization. And it does appear in the comic as if he knows what happened to her.

What I'm saying is Varric makes no visible efforts to find Bianca and like I said in my earlier post, I don't see him doing nothing if he thought she was alive/captured or whatever. Regardless of if he kept running into dead ends, he'd still be trying to find her. So, this (coupled with his reaction to the dream he had of Bianca in the fade ) says to me that he thinks Bianca is dead.

Learning more about the story would be a bonus at that point. The only thing I would really hate to see is Varric suddenly deciding he's over Bianca after a mission and a couple of chats, or to find her and have her hate him/be dead/die in his arms and then two conversations later he's in love with the Inquisitor. Blech. I want to have faith the writers would handle it better than that, of course.
What I'm most interested in is the character growth Varric has had since we last saw him. He seems a lot more pensive in the trailers and screenshots we've seen so far. It'll be nice getting to know who he is nowadays.

I'm comfortable with any plotline that leaves him happy at the end. It's all I really want for the guy.

I don't think you need to worry about that dear. 
We may love Varric and want him as an LI but we also respect other peoples opinions on the matter. This thread is meant for all of his fans to come and discuss, not just us ones who want to romance him. So long as your not coming into the thread to spew hate or bash him, your thoughts and view on the matter are completely welcome!

Of course. Don't get me wrong, I love Varric and I'm happy to have him back. He might not be the same bro to my Inquisitor that he was to my Hawke, but he's Varric. That's good enough to have him along. I'm just so over the idea that we heal the poor broken soul of their long-lost or dead love. Varric sort of deserves better than that, as a character. I just don't want to see him made into a trope. I'm really interested to see him finally shine as a character in a game where they had time to actually finish and polish the final product.

I dunno... I'm a regular lurker of this thread and it seems like a majority of it is talking about Varric as a target of romance. Mostly lustful or romantic themed images or comics are posted about Varric.
I love Varric, but not in that way. It is hard to find an opportunity to jump into the conversation.
