And I wouldn't let Varric keep the red lyrium chip (I didn't want him to go coco) - did anyone else?

Oh absolutely not.

He was even going a little nuts just holding it.

Ill be honest, if it wasnt so useful for Hawke, id probably get rid of it completely. Red lyrium is bad news. And thats coming from a proud blood mage.

No WAY was Varric keeping the shard. I also had to say no to Merrill just now which resulted in 115 rival points 0_o. First time I've done this. *Sigh* hate me if you must Daisy but I know you end up killing your clan and the keeper (who I like) with your demon mirror if I let you have the tool.

Id argue that the Keeper of her clan, and the clan itself killed her clan. Not Merrill.

I killed Bartrand, destroyed the idol.  Doesn't do anyone an ounce of good.

Gaming at the Sadists Convention - Adventures with Mrs. Chestbeard.

As I understand it, if you're on the Friendship path with Merrill and you don't help her fix the mirror, you go from Friendship X to Rivalry X-15. So if you have Friendship 80, suddenly you drop to Rivalry 65. Which is a ton of points, when you get right down to it.

I have a Hawke who gave Varric the shard, but he's pretty low on my list of characters to continue. One of us will see it eventually, I'm sure.

EDIT: Wait, wait, I chose to spare  Bartrand and didn't give Varric the idol. lol so I'm not sure what you mean...

Yeah but if you talk to her after and aren't a jerk, you can make back almost all of those points accept for maybe the 15.

Happened to me the first time and i freaked out, then realized how easy it is to get the points back.

He was going nuts just being in the mansion with the shard. As you explore the mansion he claims to hear singing and a voice that none of your other party members can hear. I believe Bartrand also claims the idol "sings" to him as well.

I think dwarves may be more susceptible to the shards influence.

Which is weird, considering that dwarves are supposed to be more resistant to lyrium (at least the regular kind), but it did seem like the dwarves were more susceptible to it in the game. Or at least Bartrand and Varric were.

Ahhhh, okay that makes much more sense. haha

@fiveforchaos Nope, just the usual drooling and chest-hair jokes. No news yet, maybe tomorrow.

The Red Templars seem to have bits of red lyrium sticking out them...I wonder that will have an affect on Varric as well.

Some drooling and some crazy shard discussion. Nothing official.

Honestly, I dunno. Bartrand had the shard for awhile, so it's not surprising it affected him pretty strongly. And it wouldn't surprise me if Varric had already spent some time in the house getting it ready for sale. It could just be an exposure thing.

Are you sure? I tried talking to her afterwards. Was nice to her but she threw me out of her house and gave me another 30 something rival points :crying:

That's true. I hadn't thought of that.

It's because they're surface dwarves, so they begin to lose their resisitance to lyrium overtime.

That too, red lyrium affects even normally resistant dwarves.

Im pretty damned sure.

She apologized for calling me a shemlen and said she knew I was only looking out for her.

Its possible it only works if you are in a romance with her? I have only not given her the tool once.

Do we think red lyrium is connected to the "elder one" in any way? I can't help but think of how it affects dwarves... also, sandal's prophecy... I might be over-speculating today...

Maybe your previous friendship/rivalry score with Merrill has an influence on it. Like if you're taking the friendship path with her and refuse her the tool she's more forgiving than if you're in a rivalry with her.

Yeah im trying to find proof of what im saying, but i really cant.

Thats really strange, because i know i ended that playthrough with her at Max friendship, and i had definitely lost a ton of points on that quest.

Regardless, if you are at max friendship with her, you wont lose any points anyway.

I let Varric decide and he shot him. It was his brother so it didn't feel right for me to decide. I can understand why he did it, it's just no life to be incapacitated like that forever. It's still very sad though.

If I don't take a sibling into the deep roads Varric chooses but if a sibling went into the deep roads Bertrand dies no matter how sweet my Hawke is

Hmm, that's an interesting theory....Which reminds me, there's alot of speculation that Flemeth could actually be Andraste. What's you guys opinions on that?

Im not sure if Sandals prophecy actually means anything.

When asked, Gaider said something like "We just thought it would be funny if sandal said some really weird stuff, and when confronted about it responded with "Enchantment?". It wasn't really meant to be taken seriously."

He said it in that fan interview that happened a month or two ago.
