I was just rethinking the whole thing.
What if IB isn't the one race-gated, only Varric and... Dagna?
I've been thinking that for about a week now.

Varric and Viv will be the race gated. One male, one female.

I have my doubts Vivienne is a love interest.
Unless something has just been confirmed.

I was kinda toying with that idea too, Dagna is the only non-companion NPC (besides advisors of course) that we know of..And given that it might be a little difficult to animate a dwarf romance with the taller companions (without it looking weird). Maybe dwarves will be race-gated from everyone and only have Dagna and Varric as options?
Hmmmm...I think I'd be okay with this honestly. The devs did say not all options would be equal..
Okay, so I've seen folks predict that Iron Bull will not be race gated (despite the reasons stated for gating and that it'll allow for more romances,) that Vivienne will be, that Varric is off the table and they want Celine as the mysterious romance that's the non adviser/non companion LI. It makes for a sad tiefling.
Am I the only non-hetero female that takes one look at the Empresses life and surroundings and go, "Nope, not getting near that hotbed of politics, don't care how awesome she is"?
*raises hand* I'm with ya on that. I'm more into characters who stay away from politics.
I dooon't really see how IB couldn't be race-gated, honestly... his size is just begging for problems if you were to romance him with a Dwarf, as much as I would enjoy it.
"Varric off the table. Why? BIANCA." *case closed* <--- yeah, still not buyin' that from people.
They can say it to me all they want.
Well in terms of variety, DA2 had angry and angrier men while the ladies were naughty and naive.
I honestly don't know how DA:I will turn out.
Yes and that lack of variety was also disappointing (for the men, the women I felt were sufficiently different). But it's one thing when you've got 2 similar characters, it's quite another when you've 4 of them.
Doesn't matter too too much to me, Celena might be "competing" with my waifu for romance slot, but I'm not particularly interested in female LI's that aren't Dagna (I'm straight, but I make a special exception for Dagna). As for male LI's worse case scenario for me is that we only get one more and they're race gated against female dwarves... In which case even Cullen looks like a pretty interesting character now. And in the event of a non-worse case, but still not awesome, scenario, I get either Varric, Solas, IB, or Blackwall... those are all excellent choices, though of course Varric is my first and most important love ![]()

Yeah, I really don't know how Vivienne (a human) would be race gated if she's available. Also, since I know that race gating came about due to a technical issue, I think that Iron Bull and Varric are gated. I still don't think Vivi is a LI, but we'll see if I'm proven wrong.
I'm ignoring the nay-sayers. Only the devs are going to be able to convince me that Varric isn't available as a LI. For everyone else, I have a duck's back; I'll just let all of the negativity wash right over me.
@five If you're willing to have a f/f romance just for Dagna, then I'll call you "straight but not narrow [minded]." ![]()

You are not alone. Plus, we all know she'd never really love one of us- she's just be using us to help sate her longing for
I don't want it to be Celene. >_<

I think there's something about our lovable dwarves that transcends sexuality. You wouldn't believe how many posts I've seen about Varric that pretty much come down to "straight guy here, but totally wanna hit that".

Forget Hawkesexual or Playersexual
It's all about that Varricsexuality
I'm kidding, don't hit me.

He is the David Bowie of Dragon Age. Women want him, men either want him, want to be him, or both. ![]()
I've seen plenty of heterosexual fans who seem willing to play a different gender for a character they love that isn't their orientation (like many men saying they will play female to romance Sera), and I think that's awesome.
I know not everyone can get into that flow and even as a bisexual I can understand it to some extent, because I really heavily prefer playing my own gender, but will most likely eventually play a male just to experience Dorian's romance.
I consider myself a Varric-curious heterosexual.
That's a thing now.
It's a good thing. ![]()
By the way, my response to someone in the romance thread stating that s/he doesn't want a Varric romance because the hangup he has on Bianca is "romantic."
You find it romantic that he's personalized a crossbow in order to avoid intimacy while stuck on a woman that he hasn't seen outside of a dream in over 10 years?
Guess we have different ideas of romantic.
It's a good thing.

You go , girl!
I saw that, good one. hehehehe. ![]()
But true... with every Bianca excuse, I just get slightly more frustrated. Must remain calm and polite... >.>

What if it was the opposite--Bianca is the reason why Varric can love Inquisitor! He feels its time to move on and stop pining. How about that.
-So much Juliet sass, it can't be contained-

I had the same thought, so I like your sass. ![]()
It would also make sense, given the events of Until We Sleep. He seemed to put more than a few ghosts to rest, and I was left with the impression that he'd come to terms with his mixed feelings about Bianca (you know she hurt him quite badly in order for him to personalize his crossbow like that.) I think/hope that Varric is ready to move on emotionally.
I seriously feel like he is an LI
Also, I'm going by my belief of they won't bring him back to torment me a second time in not being an LI
The only thing I can think of to compare it to is Joker from Mass Effect, but I don't think he had as big of a (romance desiring) following as Varric does.

or better yet,
Bianca has developed a strange desire to have a threesome relationship. She loves Varric, but sees the Inquisitor and says "mmmm I need me some more dwarf" so she asks the dwarf Inquisitor if he/she would like to join in on the relationship to which he/she says "yes". Bianca gets mysteriously sick from a strangely colored drink that the Inquisitor might or might not have poisoned. Varric and the Inquisitor continue their relationship without Bianca.
The End.
Edit: Do not even ask why that entered my mind ![]()

Stahp right there.
I didn't want to romance him but that comparison almost made me sob.
