By the way, my response to someone in the romance thread stating that s/he doesn't want a Varric romance because the hangup he has on Bianca is "romantic."  

 

 

 

 

Well there is a bit of romance to it. But you can't just look at his fixation on Bianca as a fixation on her as a person. She symbolizes that life he could have had, that freedom of not being bound by duty to his family or their clients. Of doing things not for the sake of others, but for himself. By naming that crossbow after her he held onto a small bit of the life he chose to turn away from, the life he wanted, but couldn't let himself have. I think there's a bittersweet poetry to that.

It would be worse. Especially if he accidentally shoots... ... never mind. Let's just hope he is a LI.

EDI was an AI, and was considered a person by herself and those around her. She passed about every test for sentience they could muster up. 

 

Bianca is a crossbow, an inanimate object with no thoughts or feelings of its own. 

 

A relationship with EDI is complicated, but not necessarily unhealthy.

A relationship with Bianca is at best a fantasy and at worse an unhealthy fixation.

 

Joking about being in love with a crossbow as a way to avoid acknowledging your actual feelings is probably pretty unhealthy, but no one's likely to call you out on it when your standing next to a bunch of other people with much bigger problems.

Btw I hated that Mass Effect 3 shipped Joker/EDI. Wasn't a Joker fan but it was as bad as Jacob having a baby mama.

or better yet,

Bianca has developed a strange desire to have a threesome relationship. She loves Varric, but sees the Inquisitor and says "mmmm I need me some more dwarf" so she asks the dwarf Inquisitor if he/she would like to join in on the relationship to which he/she says "yes". Bianca gets mysteriously sick from a strangely colored drink that the Inquisitor might or might not have poisoned. Varric and the Inquisitor continue their relationship without Bianca.

The End.

I disliked Joker/EDI as well, and Varric/Crossbow would be even worse... I don't think they'd go there. The former was uncomfortable enough.

Agree . I loved EDI but though Joker/EDI was really awkward. Jacob having a baby mama was ridiculous. I always wanted to know why they needed him to hook up with Space Hawke?

What's sad about Jacob in ME3 is that back in ME2 he clarified that he may not be ready for a family and that he does not want to be like his father. The writers got lazy >:-(

Anyway, I hope Mary and David recognize that we want to touch Varric's chest and butt.

I swear, there shouldn't have only been the renegade option to slap him..You should have had the option to biotic charge/signgularity/incenerate/techarmor/concusiveshot him!

In Dragon Age 2, I could happily agree about that.  That's why I accepted Bianca as a reason at the time.  

 

However, we're talking over 10 years since Hawke and Varric met, so that's at least 10-11 years since he's seen the real Bianca outside of a dream.  It's getting unsettling and I can't buy that excuse anymore.

So I hope that the DAI team won't take an easy way out. Or I will fear for their safety.

I'm so glad that I had no interest in romancing Jacob.  Not only did I do a "wait for Liara" session my first time in ME2, but I romanced Garrus the second.  Jacob is also the name of one of my little brothers, so that put him immediately off the table.

I attempted a romance with Jacob out of curiosity, but he was so boring I just stopped. And then I couldn't have Jack. ME2 was a sad time for me. xP
