No news.
According to your own testimony things would have been a bit more dramatic had it been bad news
.
Also I just thought of an interesting way to handle the shard.
It'd go something like.
Inquisitor notices small little red shiny dots on Bianca, Varric lies if it's pointed out.
If Inquisitor pushes Bianca could be inspected, and the red lyrium shard removed. Rather large hit to Varric's frienship is taken. Much, however, can be recovered if the right options are picked in the subsequent conversation.
If Not
Varric acts oddly later in game, maybe asks if anyone hear's anything, snaps at someone when he wouldn't normally. Bianca seems to have even more red dots.
If Inquisitor pushes Bianca is inspected and the red lyrium is removed. Inquisitor takes a small hit to Varric's friendship points, or even gains some if the right options are picked.
If Not
Varric eventually almost seriously injures a fellow teammate (probably Cass or Bull) due to paranoia/jumpiness. Bianca is covered in red dots.
If Inquisitor pushes Bianca is inspected. There's no way to removed the shard now without permanently damaging her. Inquisitor can either choose to break her or give her back to Varric. Choosing to break her will result in a major friendship hit, though some can be recovered through the right conversation options. Varric can now only use daggers.
If Inquisitor doesn't push/Doesn't destroy Bianca
Varric eventually goes full Meredith. This results in one fantastic battle in which he has some amazing powers. Whether it's on your side or against depends on other choices made in the story. If against Varric dies at the end. If on your side, Varric can be saved if right options were picked, but he is no longer a companion and probably not a romance option.
I dunno, I think it'd make for an interesting story progression.
