It's completely unedited stream-of-consciousness stuff. It's not going to be the next Harry Potter, but it's basically what I see in my head at the moment. I might edit it later to give proper scenes rather than descriptions but I'm hungry and my breakfast has sadly not yet managed to make itself

This is for any Inquisitor who's up for some Varric lovin'. The first few questions are about your Inquisitor, so if they're still not completely planned out feel free to skip it.

Melaina has long, unruly tawny hair, that she generally attempts to keep out of the way in a ponytail, but will sometimes plait, and deep green eyes. She’s quick, sharp and a mistress of the tactical retreat- causing all the trouble and letting everyone else clean up the mess. Being brought up in a noble household, she rarely had to take responsibility for her own actions, and it’s something that makes adjusting to being the Inquisitor very hard for her. Relying mainly on instinct and a knack for finding trouble, she’s going to drag the Inquisition into all sorts of weird and wonderful scenarios.

1) Who makes the first move and how?
Melaina is a flirt. She flirts to break the ice, she flirts to get her own way, and she flirts to disguise what she’s actually thinking. Between her and Varric it becomes almost an awkward dance, both flirting, but neither quite sure if the other- or indeed themselves- is being serious. It takes a lot of hard coming to terms with her new responsibilities as a leader before she realises what’s truly important for her. There’s no real sense of romance in Melaina, she lives for the moment and goes for what she wants when she knows what that is. During one of their now-regular drinking sessions she finally tells Varric that she’d like to… get to know him a little better. His response? “Thought you’d never ask.”
2) What's the others reactions?
Ranging between shock, disapproval and amusement. Melaina is a wild handful by herself, and the combination of her and Varric gives some of the steadier companions like Cassandra the shivers. Sera and the Iron Bull on the other hand are watching with a mixed sense of awe and hilarity at the thought of all the chaos that could ensue. Some, like Josephine will be surprised- she expected Melaina to fall for a steadying hand, someone to keep her on the straight and narrow. What she doesn’t immediately see is that for Melaina, Varric works well as someone to allow her to keep her wild nature, but rein her in when she gets herself in too deep.
3) Varric wants to give your quizzy their favorite meal or a thoughtful gift... What is it and how would he give it to them?
After Melaina’s third escape attempt from the Keep in the early days of the Inquisition, Cassandra had all Melaina’s lockpicks melted down in front of her. As time has gone on, Melaina has come to know that the Inquisition was the right place for her, and she’s no longer angry with Cassandra for her actions, but she still misses the freedom of coming and going as she pleases. Varric, knowing this, purchases a top-of-the range set for her, and presents them to her by using them to unlock the door to her rooms in the middle of the night. After narrowly avoiding impalement on the end of a well-aimed dagger, he is very well rewarded for his kindness.
4) Does Varric and your quizzy make their relationship obvious right away or is it hush-hush at first?
I don’t see either of the pair as being the public affection type. They already got on very well, and they were always flirty to start with so to the casual observer it wouldn’t seem as though anything had changed, but equally Melaina sees no reason to hide her actions. She will be bluntly honest with anyone who questions her.
5) If it's on the down low; do they end up telling the group or do they find out on their own?

7) How do they behave together on and off the battlefield?
On the battlefield, Melaina is a single-minded machine. She and Varric work together well- he covers her, and draws attention, and she moves in close and cuts them down at speed. There’s only an I in survival, but she’s learning to adapt her ways of thinking in more ways than one. Off the battlefield they behave like best friends. They clear out taverns in almost every town the Inquisition enters, cheating outrageously at Wicked Grace and sampling every local beverage. He’ll go along with some of her riskier thefts and thrillseeking attempts, all the while wondering how he manages to end up in these situations, and she’ll learn from his dealings with the merchant guild.
8) Would your quizzy flirt with someone else? Would Varric? How would they react?
Absolutely. They’re both natural flirts and they both know when to draw the line.
9) Who's the first to say "I love you"? When/Where/How do they do it?
This is a tough one. I want to say Varric, because I’m not convinced Melaina would recognise love if she felt it. For her it seems very much like having a favourite possession, something she wants to keep and treasure and doesn’t ever want to see lost or damaged- but she doesn’t link that to being in love. I think he’ll say it in an almost offhand way, a way he could laugh of if she didn’t return the sentiment. She takes it away and thinks about it, talks to Josephine about it and Josephine helps her to realise that she does indeed love him. All this time poor Varric is thinking she didn’t really feel the same.
10) What's the most publicly romantic thing your quizzy initiates? (Whether it's all the time or only once)
Melaina is one of the least romantic people in Thedas. Her idea of a nice sentiment would be to throw a nice ring over to Varric on the battlefield whilst looting the corpses. What can I say? Her mother despairs too.
11) What's the most publicly romantic thing Varric initiates? (Whether it's all the time or only once)
Varric is a true gentleman. He’s always doing little things for her that she appreciates without even realising the intention. Luckily for her, he finds it sweet.
12) If your quizzy and Varric get into an argument who is the first to usually apologize (even if they were in the right)?
Unfortunately for Varric, its going to be him again. Mela’s time-tested approach to solving problems is to run away and hope they don’t catch up. It’s not the best strategy for a healthy relaionship, but it’s not something she can change about herself overnight.
13) Oh no! Quizzy got injured! Varric is the only one around to take care of them. How does your quizzy react to being a patient?
Ooooh she hates it. Varric will tread carefully, treating her the way he would a wild animal, soothing, joking mildly and being firm with her. SHe will insist she’s fine and doesn’t need help and that he’s overreacting. Whilst he’s treating her though, she’ll start to feel glad that he cares enough to ignore her protests, and it will actually end up being quite a touching moment for them both.
14) Oh no! Again! Now Varric is injured and Quizzy has to play doctor; how would they go about it?
With a mixture of flirting, terrible jokes and promises of future benefits if he would just stay still and let her work.
15) Something emotionally scarring happened; how would Quizzy and Varric comfort each other?
Up on the rooftops with a large amount of alcohol. In times like those, I think it’s the companionship and the feeling of not being alone that is most important. For Mela, it’s a reason not to run again and try to work through the hurt rather than leaving it behind.
16) Is there a proposal in the future? Who pops the question and how?
Probably not. They’ll be able to make more money as an unofficial unit
17) Let's say the world was saved and you are no longer bound to the Inquisition; what's you quizzy and Varric planning to do?
They’ll joke about opening a tavern in a small village, but neither of them are really cut out for the quiet life. They’ll end up adventuring- she’ll get them into all sorts of weird and wonderful situations, and Varric will tell stories about them

What nickname does Varric give your Inquisitor?
Zippy. Because she’s fast, likes to run from her problems, and Houdini sadly doesn’t exist in Thedas.
