I'm gonna have to agree with you here, I think Vivi is out at this point and Varric/Solas are in.

Solas/Bi/all races (we've had a Bi elf in every game since DAO)
Varric/straight/racegated
With an existing member of the Li batch being the other race-gate. I'd put my money on Cullen, he expresses disdain for dwarves in DAO. Which would be okay in this scenario because Varric would make up for that spot since he'd be available to F!dwarves.

The NPC flirt option would probably be a lesbian female, I'll go with Celene. ( Bioware thought the flirt option was noteworthy enough to mention, so I'm guessing it'll be a little more fleshed out than previous flirt options in the other games. )

The reason why I say this is because of two things:

1.) David Gaider said all gender/sexualities will have equal representation in DAI but that may not meet an individuals definition of "fair." He also said that they've prioritized two romances for every/race/gender/sexuality combo & that's as far as their obligation takes them.
"In my opinion, "fair" is "I, as a player, am not treated as an afterthought. It is not "I get exactly the same number of choices as everyone else" or "I am being oppressed by not getting choices I personally want."

This particular combo of LI's would fit that bill quite nicely. Everyone's orientation gets equal representation, but lesbians will get Celene which won't be a full romance and people will likely not see as being fair.

2.) Vivienne not being an option would leave straight men with the same number of options they've had since DAO. This is relevent because of what David Gaider said at the GaymerX panel:

"But if you are going to look at the total number of romances, like, I had two options in DAO and two options in DA2 and I still have two options in DAI, but there are other people getting options and you’re going to say, wait, why aren’t I getting all the options? Well that’s too f****** bad."

This lines up with what he was saying in the romance thread about equal options and seems to me he's preparing some group for heartbreak.
Let's take a look at this though, lesbians/gays only had one option in DAO and straight males/females had two.
In DA2 however, lesbians/gays/straight males had two and straight females had three options of LI. ( including DLC Sebastian, but for those of you who argue that he doesn't really count, just look at the remaining potential LI's in Inquisition. We have three men vs one woman, the odds of straight women being the ones left out is very unlikely. ) So, the only group that has had two romance options in BOTH games was straight males, therefore Gaider had to be talking about them. And so my conclusion is that Vivi won't be Bi like I previously thought...or likely available at all. Because I think she fits into that category of "ain't got time for your business" the Devs talked about.

 

Sorry about wall of text...I've just thought about this alot, so I have much to say about it.

 

You know what? I was really gunning for Vivienne. But this, THIS, I am seriously all for. Not gonna lie, I'm a little shocked at myself for digging on this being a possibility.
I'm also still gonna hope that Varric is available for more than just dwarves. Like dwarves and elves or something. But that's just me :3

 

Yes. This I'm 200% for. Vivi would be a cool option- but MAN OH MAN this would be good. I'm only worried because David Gaider said today that: "Our choices need to get approved by the Powers That Be (and usually are)"

 

Meaning, I wonder if EA execs, the same people who are too afraid to put out more games that don't have "generic white man with scruffy beard" would be willing to put out more male love interests than female. I think they'd be ok with "equal" genders but more dudes? They would probably think "That's too gay!"

 

still... I REALLY HOPE NOW IT'S SOLAS AND VARRIC PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.

(and solas would still fit in that last "mage option" we've been discussing)

Well, I'm really not interested in Vivienne at all. But in all honesty if the last two Love Interests are both men as opposed to a man and a woman to keep things equal, yeah, i'll be a bit upset.

 

Because im not too sure what that means for me. I mean, im sorry for being a straight(-ish) male, but Im interested in romance options too...

OPTION
Rituous Amell
A human male, circle mage. While the story of Revka is known; an Amell father is not named. Rituous is half Chasind and wields a large maul.
He revels in magic of all kinds and barbarism.
Personality wise, Rituous is dark, stern, controlling, and ruthless.
Always looking down to Jowan, he is shocked when he turns to Blood Magic and becomes in awe of the power it held.
In Redcliffe that power is offered to him and he takes it. He falls in love with Morrigan but lies to her and himself when he agrees that he feels love is weak. His story will take a darker turn and certain options that aren't available in Origins will be happening in his story.

Well, you've got two options don't you ? Which is pretty much what everyone else is getting. I'd rather they tell the stories they want to tell rather then forcing a certain character as an option to keep it equal.

Well, Fem!dwarves is a given at this point if he ends up being an LI. Humans are out, if you take what he in Merrills house seriously. And Qunari are unlikely since he doesn't seem to like them too much. But he never mentions anything about elves so we don't know his standing on that yet, which means it's definitely possible!

 

I would agree with this.  Varric seems one of the most likely characters to be race-gated.

 

Which, in my book, makes it highly likely he is one of the remaining LIs.

 

Part of me is disappointed, I figured my bro would be more open minded than that, then the other part of me would just be excited he is available in some form.

I've got the opposite problem. If Vivienne isn't a romance, then I as a straight female would most likely get the most options. While that's great for me, I would feel bad for straight males and lesbians. With all the complaining I've done about the industry catering to straight males, I don't want a role reversal. I want equality.

Personally I'm in favor of having a more round-robin advantage system.  Typically straight males get the most... of everything.  If for one game straight women get a little extra, I'm ok with it.  To me we're still making up for a large deficit in equality, in the general game space.

 

Everyone already has more cake to eat than we've gotten in any past game.  Can we really gripe if someone has a little extra icing?

Donovan Hawke
A dual wielding rogue.
I'm not going to lie, he is charming and says all the right things at the right time. Which is probably why it shocks everyone when he stabs them in the back.
Really, he's manipulative, selfish, and he uses people. There are shreds of humanity in him that are real but only a select few will ever be "privileged" to see it.
Donovan sleeps with everyone. But he stops sleeping around after Merrill which probably confuses everyone.
I don't know how to describe Donovan too much anymore without giving anything away but I'll tell you his story would definitely be interesting.
I suspect the best way to mark him is as someone you'd "love to hate".


OPTION
Vaeva Hawke
Another male character. He's a warrior wielding either a maul or greatsword; haven't decided yet. He is a devout Andrastian who is conflicted in how he feels about the mages, Templars, and circles. He is, however, confident that his sister is the exception. Vaeva is loud, jovial, and a bit of a trouble maker; if only to keep Aveline on her toes. That being said, he loves her but doesn't know how to tell her.
He's definitely a guy who smiled while the world shatters around him just so other people don't have to worry.


OPTION C)
Etality Hawke
A female mage. She's a mediator; but definitely pro-mage. Very supportive to her friends; I actually was unable to make anyone her rival. That included Fenris even though I was constantly siding against him in almost every mission.
She's very giving and usually knows how to keep the peace. She has a chaste marriage with Sebastian, though Anders is in love with her.


OPTION D)
Cormac Hawke
Named after the legend, Cormac and his faithful Mabari, Conobar, go to save the day.
He's a sword and shield warrior who's very dutiful and tries his hardest to be law-abiding in his situation. He doesn't know how to take a joke; not because he's a sore-sport, but because he just doesn't get it. Isabela is his romantic interest and they both end up changing each other a bit. His is a bit more standard than the other three but I enjoyed playing him, thus I believe I'd enjoy writing him as well.


As for my OC's, their options are going to change depending on which characters are picked.

 

I'm going with OPTION again!! But Option C sounds good too, un-requainted love is always interesting.

Trust me, I would be much sadder for the lesbians than the straight males for this exact reason. And I'm mostly with you, everything can't be equal all the time. As long as one group isn't constantly catered to or left out, then I'm fine with that.
