Oh god, I remember seeing that trailer and thinking, "This game must be the worst Garbage."

 

The only reason i picked it up at all was because my friend convinced me that it wasnt like the awful commercials.

I loved 'em, but I saw nothing about it until after I played in and 2, several times.  I knew nothing about DAO when it came out, except:

 

You pick your background/race/class/gender.

A mage is a mage, and all mages have the same backstory.

Dwarves can't be mages.

Elves are so low in the hierarchy a human nobleman can just show up and start abducting brides from their wedding. 

 

Literally, all I knew.  Completely floored me when Duncan died.

As was i... and yes bioware marketing best in the world lawls. They never know what to show or how, they really need to put someone in the higher writing team threw marketing courses and then let them do the marketing for their games. 

 

Also on a side note look at the cute Dwarf quisitor chibi!

I like your Dwarf Quisitor Chibi, it looks like something that might actually be made in the game (it also suits your name quite well)

I knew tons about Dragon age when it first came out, but that was because I had been fallowing the forums when I first heard about a spiritual successor to BG and was like OMG OMG OMG MUST HAVE DON'T CARE WHAT IT IS MUST HAS NAO!

Male Dalish rogue.  Morrigan creeped me out, so romanced Leliana.  Put Alistair on the throne alone, as I recall, Harrowment, saved the circle, cured the wolves, saved Connor, denied the ritual and didn't know if I do that and take Alistair to the top of the tower I can't stop him from killing the archedemon. 

 

My brain kept running and running after I went to sleep.  I'd never played anything like that before.

Who the hell was that aimed at? People who don't know how to use the internet for porn? Very glad I got into DA from a relative lending me the game if I had seen some of this marketing I'd be out the door never to look at Bioware agian.

 

For me, it was thanks to female customers (I worked for a video game store some time ago) who told me to pick this up. They kept saying "You can play as a woman!" and "the story is so good!" and it was just their general enthusiasm for the game that made me purchase my first ever Bioware game. That was the seller, hearing other women and girls talking highly of it. Not whatever that was supposed to be. Thank GOODNESS I never saw that in the UK.

I honestly dont even understand what they were going for if they were trying to titillate a male audience.

 

Im probably not the best judge, because i have odd tastes, but do most men even find the stuff in that video attractive?

I came up with mine because I liked chibis and five for fighting... I was 12. By the time I started a tumblr I was already using it as my username for everything else, I'd grown so accustomed to it that I couldn't go back.

 

Fiveforchaos came from my desire to appear more gender neutral, I think it actually sounds pretty badass if you don't know where it came from.

 

So I guess the background for your name makes a cutesy name pretty badass, and the background for my name makes a badass name pretty cutesy. Funny how things work out  .

 

Also I just had a thought. GDL is doing his twitter Q&A tomorrow.  I dare say he could let Solas's LI status slip, and if he does, and Solas is an LI, we might find ourselves at "war" with the Vivienne thread, and all straight/lesbian fans on the forums (and by "war" I mean hopefully whatever friendly rivalry we currently have going on with the Solas thread). That'll get pretty interesting.

As a straight female I admit I was kinda enjoying the boobie shots a little bit... but I definitely don't want that in a game if I can avoid it, and I'll readily avoid any game that markets itself like this.

A character like Isabella is fine.  Six of them is a bit much.

I know some guys that would gladly oogle and then tear apart those women's looks. That video had my eyes rolling and head shaking but I know at least one guy that would comment on how nice the bust was but they needed to cover their face because reasons A-Z. So yes and no?

I can't imagine it would create any lasting desire to play the game, let alone buy it.

Its so weird to see that commercial tied to Dragon Age: Origins.

 

Thats the kind of commercial id expect for, like, dead or alive: Extreme Beach Volleyball.

It wouldn't they'd just comment on it and watch the video a few times but they wouldn't buy it, course they prefer strategy games so DA wouldn't appeal to them anyway so I guess that doesn't count^^;

Pretty much just a marketing campaign to attract more "Gamers" I like to think we have moved on from that sense than, but likely not.
