Cullen definitely has that 'appeals to the masses' look where he's so conventionally attractive that most like him automatically. And this is one of the reasons why I'm only 'meh' about him. I just have a feeling that I won't get along with him because they said in his character write up that he's going to be more of a solve-the-problem-with-violence kind of guy; conversely though, I liked Josephine from the get go because they said she was diplomatic and sought comprise.
I remember Gaider saying that Cullen had a nice character arch so that's good to think of. Still, not overly excited about him.
Yeah, from what I've heard about Cullen he seems like he'll be a very interesting character in the next game. And his face has definitely got more character than it did in the previous games, which is certainly a bonus for me.
The thing is I'm a huge action movie fan, but somewhere in my teens I got kinda burned out by all the samey looking and acting white male action movies stars out there. It's gotten to the point where if a character looks like the typical action movie star my interest in interacting with them wanes that much more quickly and they have to work doubly hard to hold my interest.
I'm pretty sure it's affected my opinions of certain Bioware characters. I don't think I'd have looked twice at Garrus if he'd looked like Kaidan, and I'd probably dislike Alistair far far less (hell he might even have become my favorite character) if he'd looked more like Sten.
I'd have loved Shale and Mordin no matter what they looked like though
I'm pretty sure Varric would have gotten a pass as well.
It's a really shallow way to judge a character, but I guess we all have our biases, the best we can do is try to work through them
. Which is what I'm going to try really really hard to do with Cullen. A character with such a large and devoted fanbase must be worth it.
EDIT: Just in case I started something with my post, please no dissing on Cullen. I know there are some Cullen fans in this thread, and I'd prefer they didn't have to feel like they need to defend one of their favorite characters.
