Hi Varric thread!

 

To speak honestly, I once really wanted a Varric romance, but over time the enthusiasm for that has waned. I just have a hard time coming up with a character that would make the romance feel right to me. I admit, I'm a little wary of his continuing feelings for Bianca so he's cementing himself in 'bro' territory. I love Varric dearly, and I very much hope he's an option for you guys, but I'm not sure I'll take it.

 

However, if he's an option they'll probably make his arc worthwhile. I have a feeling at least one of my Inquisitors might boot me in the butt and demand that I get them set up with that chest hair. 

 

Hi!  We try our best to remain positive in here, thanks for your support. Solas is growing on me though so if he's confirmed and Varric isn't I will be sad... but I will definitely try out his romance. He very much reminds me of myself with what I know of him so far so I think we'll get along really well.

It's just pure speculation that I think comes from his seemingly promiscuous nature, but I don't think they would do that to us.  I for one would be very sad if that was the case.

Keep up that positivity! Nothing is set in stone! And I actually really want him to be an option, even if I don't take it, because I think he has very, very interesting potential as a LI. I want to see how they would go about fleshing out his romance with his feelings for Bianca and his changing, more cynical world view in play. I think, out of all the LI possibilities, he would have the most intriguing character growth in a romance.

Odd thing about Cullen is that I played the Dragon age series backwards. In DA2 I hated him at first because I sided with mages but he grew on me after talking to him alot. Then, by the end of the game -when he defends Hawke from Meredith- he was a bro. I played mage origins after that and thought "Dang that guys a racist, Maker loving, jerk! I hate him. " He went crazy and killed a bunch of mages at the end of DAO anf got thrown in prison. Didn't think about it anymore after that, and I didn't realize till playing DA2 a second time that it was the same guy! lol

 

It was kinda confusing for a while & I juggled my hate for him in DAO with my love for him in DA2 so, I'm not your conventional Cullenite. I don't like him because of some school girl crush he had on my Warden and I definitely didn't think he was attractive. (not saying ALL Cullenites like him because of that.)  All of his flaws and troubles made him an interesting character to me and I couldn't help liking him when I realized he really does mean well. He just has a terrible way of going about it....

In Origins I wanted to punch Cullen in the face repeatedly when I wasn't playing Amell or Surana, but I liked him in DA2 he was much calmer (even though people like to argue that he was no different).  I think I decided to give him a go at some point because of the Cullenites tbh, that and what we've heard about his romance arc...it sounds like it'll be worth it.    Of course if Varric happened to be a LI and open to multiple races I'm going to have an Alistair problem like the rest of you...

EDIT: Just in case I started something with my post, please no dissing on Cullen. I know there are some Cullen fans in this thread, and I'd prefer they didn't have to feel like they need to defend on of their favorite character.

I'm going to remake a list with every possibility (my last one was only with confirmed LI's besides Varric):

I probably won't end up romancing Cassandra (unless there's a trophy for romancing everyone, which is a strong possibility xD) But as for everyone else, I want to experience at least once.

Thanks, many of us here completely agree with that.  I personally think whether he's a romance or not, he will have an amazing personal story in the game...romance would just give us the chance to experience it on a more emotional level, which would be amazing.

DA2 was the only game where I was "meh" about all the options , which was very strange considering how much I love romances. I doubt that will happen again in DAI since Cullen and IB interest me. But if Varric is an option I'll be super happy, I doubt I will able to contain my excitement

While I liked both Merrill and Isabela, I only just recently romanced them. I'll admit I was interested in Merrill in my first playthrough but I was already romancing Anders then.

I didn't get Fenris my first go and didn't even know of him until I saw my boyfriend playing and was shocked I missed the elf! I romanced him next lol

I agree 100% it would be very interesting and has the potienal for so many feels. I totally understand what you said about being wary before but thanks for being so respectful of the feelings that a lot of people have invested on this thread! It's super appreciated.

While I liked both Merrill and Isabela, I only just recently romanced them. I'll admit I was interested in Merrill in my first playthrough but I was already romancing Anders then.

I have to admit, I always romance Anders. I like the fact that it's so involved in the main plot, and it's perfect for my mage Hawkes. I did do a Jerry Springer run once, where I slept with Fenris first and then changed to Anders and brought them everywhere just to hear them ****** about me... Good times!

For me, my interests as far as romancable character go something like this:

2. Varric (PLEASE!)

3. Iron Bull

4. Cullen (depending on what I see of his personality in my first playthrough)

5. Cassandra

 

After that, I'm pretty meh about the rest of them. Josephine, I don't have any real feelings about because we know so little about her. Solas and Sera... I'm not really interested in either of them, but that could change once I get the game.

Seeing as how I hadn't read any posts about Cullen other than my own and the one I was responding to when I made that edit, I can assure you it was nothing to do with what you said . I made it because I knew I was walking a very thin line between stating my own opinion on Cullen and unintentionally "bashing" him (bashing is a very strong word for what I'm actually trying to describe but it'll just have to do for now), and I didn't want to accidentally turn it into a conversation about "why people don't like Cullen", as it might put people who are fans of both Cullen and Varric in a bit of an awkward spot. I'm uber uber careful about these things because I've been on the wrong side of conversations like those before (never in this thread) and it's never fun.

@fiveforchaos Wait, Iron Bull may be just a fling? 

Patrick Weeks once posted on twitter (in response to a fan) that he wasn't going to tell us whether Iron Bull was a full blown romance or just a fling. It got me a bit concerned that he'd label it as even a possibility, though I'm certain that, considering the devs clear devotion to IB, it's probably more than just a fling.

Every Time it ended up being Fenris despite me wanting to go other routes (Besides Anders, he's whiny, his message is incorrect propaganda and his face is ugh)

This is the first game where I'm actually interested in so many characters... In Origins, it was really just Alistair. I liked Leliana and Zevran, but I really just couldn't pull myself away from Alistair. I did sleep with Isabela in many of my files, though.

 

In DA2, It was always either Isabela or Anders, and both of them were because I had become infatuated with them in prior games (Origins and Awakening respectively). Merrill seemed too naive about the world she was being placed in so going into romance territory with her would have made me feel creepy, and Fenris was just too anti-mage for my taste.

 

This time around with all the choices we have, I'm going slightly insane trying to decide what I'll do first and what kind of character I want to make first. @_@

I'm the opposite. Every time I play the game I go "come here you cute, insane abomination! Let's blow up the chantry together and burn some templars  ". I'm super pro-mage/freedom, but I usually try to friendship Fenris because i love that arc with a mage Hawke.

Oh yes, it's a proper smörgåsbord with characters to love!   so many options, I'm think I might be going insane!

Hmm...

DAO Zevran managed to grow on me very quickly, and I ended up adoring him, as did Morrigan, but I was never intrigued right off the bat by any of the romantic options.

 

DAII I had just played through Awakening and was genuinely excited about Anders, but his character had changed a little too much for me, Fenris's character concept, though interesting, didn't immediately grab me because it sounds like far too angsty a romance path (which it was but Bioware made it work for me ). Isabella and Merrill both grabbed me much faster than any other DA romantic interest before them, but not as much as say, Garrus, Thane, Jack or Tali. 

 

I'm feeling rather overhwhelmed by the possibilities for DAI, so many fascinating and intriguing characters, and so many that have already been confirmed as romances, I positively giddy.

The only part about the Gallows that I didn't like, was that they didn't allow me to react by saying well done baby, let's get this revolution started! xD

 

Seriously! xD The best part was I rarely even played a mage, I was usually just a rogue who was sick of seeing mages being treated the way they were. It probably didn't hurt that no matter what, my father was always an apostate, as well. lol
