Yeah, I wish it wasn't like this. And as I said, I'm usually very hard to offend. But that just hit right in one of my soft spots.

There are some people here with very crazy ideas that leave me quite disturbed.  I started reading it then thought "Hmm do I really wanna do this?"...

He's safely tucked away on my ignore list now. Because I know that I can't let things like that slide. I'll just end up debating it with tears streaming down my face, and it's not worth it. Not in the context of a video game. I play games to escape the ugly realities of real life politics, if I want to cry I watch the news.

He is very extreme in his view of mages, he's always been like that and will gladly talk about exterminating them until the cows come home.  I find it very disturbing that people get so sucked into the Templar thing, it's like they become Templars themsevles.  There is so so little empathy being used by these people when it comes to mages.  No compassion, it's all just business and that is incredibly psychopathic, I find it terrifying.

It's a fictional world yes, but I use my real world compassion and empathy to navigate it.  Because I am a human being.

Yeah, I agree. And it's even worse when you translate those stances into real life situations. It makes me scared to death. I find it easier to deal with the people who complain about LGBT content, because I want to believe that most of them are ignorant and that they could change their minds. But to just rid yourself of empathy and any shred of humanity... That's something else entirely!

Well, I have successfully derailed the thread into a pretty dark place. Go me!

So how about that Varric guy? He seems pretty awesome to me!

I take back my earlier slight defense of that thread.

While no real world acts of genocide are being defended anymore, after the mod cleanup it's quickly descended back into a discussion where the two most frequent posters are arguing over whether or not it's better to just kill every single mage on principle as soon as they're born, or to go the Qunari route of disfiguring them and having them around as subhuman slaves.

I avoid getting upset because I remind myself most people that hold such anti-social viewpoints are not in any sort of position to do something about them.  Half of them don't actually believe what they say and are just putting on a persona for internet attention.  The half that do genuinely believe what they say aren't actively participating in society, again, because of the aforementioned anti-social viewpoints.

Wow. That's messed up! Well, as long as I get to go the opposite route in my game...

It's actually really upsetting me to read, I don't find morality to be something that is subjective, the fact that I find genocide for instance abhorrent has sod all to do with my opinion, it's wrong, end of and the fact that people are arguing against that is just...I just don't believe it.  It's really getting to me tbh.

I don't think marketing thinks that way, unfortunately. I'm assuming they haven't done the last reveals because they don't feel like they are ready to reveal yet for some reason, but who knows. Personally, I'm focusing on assuming Varric isn't an LI for now. If it turns out I'm wrong, that's great, but it's just easier on me right now to make that assumption. Everyone deals with the potential disapointment (or excitement) in their own way, of course.

After the "mystery" business , I'm inclined to agree :D.  I just thought it was good evidence because they outright said "no" when people asked about Cole, Leliana and Morrigan. There was no concern about "mystery" when they confirmed those characters as un-romancable. They could have easily thrown in Varric in with these guys and let these groups down all together but chose not to. This was back when , at the most, Cass and Cullen were confirmed. So yeah, marketing might not have a plan at all.  Or they're staying tight-lipped for a reason , even though they had ample opportunities to let us down way back when "mystery" wasn't a concern. We'll just have to wait and see.

All ready? Huh, I knew it would happen but this soon? Why can't people just get along?

I'd be cautious about reading real world stances into such things. I'm a Red Tory with pacifistic tendencies and I wouldn't turn down the chance to eliminate mages because I really hate DA's magic system. They aren't a RL group, they're a setting element that annoys me.

Yeah, the closest thing I've ever seen to a justified genocide was ME's destroy ending. And it made me feel terrible (but I still pick it every time). But no, genocide is never right. There are no arguments in the world that can convince me otherwise and it's insulting that some try.

Same problem as in every other thread. People bringing real life stuff into it.

Btw there's new info on the Skyhold for those that stay in the safety of the Varric thread: http://forum.bioware...he-inquisition/

Sounds awesome!

The problem I have with the "they would have told us by now if he wasn't" line of thought is that we've got four potentials and two spots, and three other threads, therefore, all thinking the same thing.

Of course, Varric being Varric and a reoccur, is a bit different.

Unless I'm playing a mage, I try to stay as neutral as possible on the Templar/Mage debate in game. The whole thing makes me uncomfortable. If I have to make a decision I'd try to get the mages back in the circle. Maybe governing themselves ?  I don't know, it's a dilemma without a real answer.

Okay, so if we can pick an adviser to do a certain task, it makes me wonder if, during the demo video, we could send Cullen or Josephine to Redcliff instead, and get different results?

I don't know about sending Josephine, those didn't seem like reasonable people. I think I'd have to go with Cullen.
