Agree that Varric's a Hufflepuff. He sticks with his friends no matter what, which is the Hufflepuff thing to do. My guesses on the other DA2 characters, for what they're worth:

Anders: Gryffindor, for better or worse.

Aveline: Hufflepuff (she's very brave, of course, but I'd say that loyalty is her defining trait, too.)

Bethany: Probably another Hufflepuff, I think. Kind, loyal and just wants to live quietly.

Carver: Gryffindor, although it takes him a while to live up to it.

Fenris: A tricky one, but probably another Gryffindor.

Merrill: The walking embodiment of Ravenclaw. Knowledge before everything.

Sebastian: Gryffindor. He just won't admit it unless you rival him :D .

You forgot Isabela which I think would be Slytherin. Not because she's "evil" but because she's cunning and ambitious as a Pirate Captain.

Some-what unrelated:

I'm out of likes, but like!

But are we agreed on Bella as Slytherin? She did sacrifice a whole cargo of slaves to save her own skin... And what about the characters of DAO and Awakening?

I think that's the most accurate house to put her in, even though I would add she isn't as indecent as some Slytherin and has shown guilt and growth from her actions. There are plenty of Slytherin who aren't actually bad people though, so yeah the house just gets a bad rep from some of their more notable antagonists. I vote Slytherin. :P

Hmm... I'll have to pull up a list of the characters and think a bit on it.

Yeah, I can see Varric constantly teasing and needling Cassandra despite him knowing better.  it's too tempting to resist teasing Cassandra for some characters in the party I think.  But I can see everyone in the Inquisition respecting each other and getting along together to an extent depending on how the Inquisitor treats everyone and the he/she makes.

I'm thinking Varric and Cassandra's relationship can evolve into a friendship much like Isabela's and Aveline's in DA2 where they end up respecting each other and the barbs and teasing is more good natured.

Isabela:  Slytherin. She is quite ambitous and cunning but can be loyal as well so she could be in Hufflepuff if she wouldn't be in Slytherin.

Though I do think if Varric couldn't be in Hufflepuff, he'd be in Slytherin as he is quite cunning and savvy.

People can fit into either house. When I got sorted on Pottermore, the Sorting Hat asked me at the end of the test if I wanted to be in Hufflepuff or Slytherin. After the shock wore off that someone could be given that choice, I picked Hufflepuff because duh, we're awesome. ;)

I think Varric would do the same given the choice.

Edit: thinking on it further, Varric isn't that ambitious. he hates the Merchant's guild wants nothing to do with politics or any sort. He would have been very happy if he could spend the rest of his days getting into trouble with Hawke and drinking with friends at the Hanged Man for the rest of his life. Alas, that wasn't to be

I can't believe I forgot Isabela. *facepalm* (I should go to bed, but I tried that already and can't sleep. Stupid insomnia ...)

Anyway, I think Slytherin is the best fit for her - this is the woman who almost got Kirkwall burned to the ground because she was saving her own skin, after all. She's not evil, but she is selfish - and also clever and ambitious, which are the positive Slytherin traits.

Yes, so much yes to everything you said in the spoiler tag.  ^_^  And that's a good way of comparing her to Slytherin, as well. You don't have to be a bad guy, you can still have their traits though.

Agreed.

I think Alistair would be Gryffindor, he so want's to be the fairy tale hero. And Morrigan is simple, she's a Slytherin. I would say that Wynne is a Ravenclaw and maybe Leliana as well. But Sten, Shale, Oghren and Zev, I have no idea where to put them. Dog is a Hufflepuff though :P

Well we do have Slughorn and (superspoiler if you haven't read the books or seen the films yet)

Spoiler
They turned out to be good guys. And I think Tonks mother was a Slytherin but she still married a muggle born.

My guess at DAO characters

Alistair: Gryffindor

Morrigan: Slytherin

Leliana: Ravenclaw (she's creative~)

Sten: Gryffindor

Oghren: Gryffindor

Wynn: Toss up between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff

Zevran: Slytherin

Dog: Hufflepuff

EDIT:

DAA

Sigrun: Hufflepuff

Velanna: Slytherin

Nathaniel: Gryffindor

Justice: Gryffindor

Good list! But Wynne loves her books, shes a Ravenclaw.

As for Origins characters..

Alistair: Gryffindor. Alistair isn't exactly a leader (unless he has to be), but bravery comes from being scared and facing your fears/duties despite that, so I think it fits him well. Although him being the kind, charming goofball, I could also see Hufflepuff in him?

Leliana: Her espionage and cleverness makes me think Ravenclaw.

Morrigan: I think she's a safe bet on Slytherin for obvious reasons.

Oghren: uhm, well he's from a warrior caste and he's not really afraid of much at all. He's generally a good guy despite being lewd in his mannerisms. Gryffindor?

edit: beat to it a few times over, but it seems my thoughts were pretty accurate to everyone else's. :P

I still can't figure out Shale. Maybe a she's a very bored Ravenclaw? I don't know.

As for the Awakening characters: Oghren and Anders are already sorted into Gryffindor. Velanna is Slytherin with all of that racism, Sigrun is a Hufflepuff. I would sort Nathaniel into Gryffindor, but I have no idea where to put Justice...

She's quite self-interested.  Slytherine?

Justice and Shale are tricky because they both possess qualities that aren't really...err, organic or well known to us, being a spirit and a golem. Shale has lots of wit though if you talk to her, so a bored Ravenclaw sounds pretty good to me. x'D

Could work. She even have that Slytherin darkness, she wants to exterminate a lesser life form after all xD

I definitely agree with you all. Isabella is Slytherin, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Remember, there are good Slytherins too!

Nope! Feel free to join in. My bet from what we know is that Solas is a Ravenclaw, Dorian screams Gryffindor and I think Bull may be one too. I would place Vivienne in Slytherin and Cole just wants to be loved so he's a Hufflepuff.

Cassandra would be another Gyriffindor and Sera a Hufflepuff, I think.

I feel torn with Varric, he could easily fit into every one of the houses (yes, even Slytherine, Varric actually has the makings of the "good' Slytherine, a trope so rarely seen in HP). I have a feeling that if he were to choose a house it'd probably be Gryffindor, because he likes to be the comrade of heros. Though he might not mind ravenclaw (he is an intellectual) or hufflepuff (generally a laid back bunch).

Yes! And Blackwall could be either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, but I'm leaning towards Gryffindor. As for the advisors, I think Cullen is a Gryffindor and Josephine is a Ravenclaw or Slytherin depending on how cold and calculating she is.

Seems about right, (especially Viv) Cass, Sera, Blackwall and Cullen are probably Gryffindor, Jo and Leliana are Ravenclaw

As Mary Kirby herself said it; "Thedas knows him primarily as a storyteller, but Varric is first and foremost extremely loyal."

And which Hogwarts house is known for their loyalty?

Spoiler

This was my reasoning. :) Just people are also in Hufflepuff
