Well, you can appreciate someone as beautiful without being attracted to them per se. 

 

But I agree, mostly. If he's going to be racegated it'll probably just be 'not Qunari' because that would cause for some...awkward animation issues, even more than humans would. :S

That's also why I think if IB was a LI, he'd be race-gated to for the same reason.

of course, you are right, this is nothing near "irrefutable proof", but it is the most explicit thing we can work with besides "he is definitely into female Dwarves".

I ave this Theory. Since there was Confirmation that all eight LIs would be from the Companions/Advisors and the "other" one would only be a flirt/fling option, I have a Feeling Varrics has reasonably Chances. Here's why:

 

See, varric said he wasn't into Humans. And we all know that Dwarf x Qunari could prove difficult to animate - so I imagine him being available to Elves and Dwarves. Complementary, I suspect Vivienne to be the other bisexual racegated Option. Solely because her Hat looks like Horns and I want her to be into Qunari.

That was indeed officially confirmed by Sheryl Chee, so Varric does have a good shot in my opinion.

Excellent, I'm glad to hear that!  Gods know we could use any good news we can get.  

 

Edit: The devs talk about race-gating.  The writers talked about how focused Vivienne is on herself and on her mission.  I think it's unlikely she'll be available as a LI as a result.

 

Yet, some folks completely ignore or disregard the idea that Varric (who's very popular and who even DG admitted that he would have made for a good romance) would be available and instead pick Iron Bull and Vivienne as race gated romances.

 

To the latter I say: What.  Even if she is an LI...what the...?

I think it would be nice for his fans for Varric to be bisexual, but I honestly don't have a solid guess on that one way or the other. He could be either (straight or bi) and I wouldn't be surprised. Him only talking about women in the past doesn't sway me really, and we've seen it happen before with characters that end up actually not being straight.

I have a dear friend of mine that came out at the age of 40 as pan, and had never talked about an attraction to women prior to that point, so I agree with you 100%.

Here's the lovely thing, there will be dwarf/human animation because there will be human and elves that can be romanced by a dwarf quizzy So we can assume it will look just fine. Also I too think Varric will just be "non-qunari"  and the reason why he would be fine with humans in DAI?

Which I will assume Bioware will say IF humans can romance him.I'm sure they will have to tell people to chill out about it when the "OMG retcon!!!" accusations start to fly. Yes. The way I would take it as would be if he's not race gated, it was a joke. If he is race gated, he was serious and isn't in to humans.

THANK YOU! I will laugh so hard if this happens. "But but...Varric said he doesn't like humans!"  Yeah well Cullen said dwarves were cave dwelling heathens and he had pstd about mages before. Despite this I highly doubt mages and dwarves won't be able to romance him. Btw I like Cullen I just don't like the hypocrisy there.

<snicker.  It would be funny, but I wouldn't wish it on them.  Varric being gated for at least technical reasons makes sense, but Cullen wouldn't.

Anders didn't tell the PC Grey Warden he was bisexual either.
