I understand disappointment, what I can't stand is people wanting the writers to change something about a character just to please the fanbase. In retrospect I've been kinda hypocritical about that with Iron Bull possibly being a fling so starting now I'm going to be completely ok with all of Biowares decisions.
But that won't stop me from flailing this around.

I feel the same way with IB, so I've been trying as much as possible to just be optimistic and kind about everyone's desires with the LI's (I still get a bit of a 'hmph' goin on when people say they think he's a fling, but just stay quiet about it) 
And yes, I saw that picture in all it's glory in the IB thread. xD
I find Varric more likely than Viv and Blackwall as well, not just because I want him to be, but also because it just seems to make more sense to me.

I just asked the romance thread how they would react if Varric is a LI. I also asked them not to just say, "It isn't going to happen," because I'd like an honest opinion about the idea.
I also mentioned that if he wasn't a LI, I'd sigh, be happy that my best bud in Thedas is back, and play the game to see who else trips my trigger.

I've just been going over in my head thinking about the potential companions that are LIs, and frankly they don't seem to fit except Varric.
Blackwall--Like I mentioned, I think it'll be a flirt and he'll turn you down. He's nearing his Calling, and already strikes me as the type of guy that would rather die than hurt one of his dear friends.
Vivienne--This one is rather tricky. I personally think she "ain't got time for that," due to her drive and determination to get ahead. So I don't think she'll be available as a result. Some have said it would be racist to make the first black female companion in DA a LI, others have said that it was be racist not to. I think the DA team is in a catch .22 here.
Solas and Iron Bull (gated) I think are going to be our bisexual men.
I also think Blackwall has a slim chance of getting in, Maker forbid we end up with something similar to Thane's romance in ME3. 
I don't think Bioware wants a repeat of that...if he is indeed going through his calling, I don't think he'll be an LI. He'll probably end up being the Wynne/Duncan parental figure of the group.

What's this about Dagna not being a LI? When did that happen?
I'd hoped that on my female commoner run my female dwarfquisitor would romance Varric and on my male noble run my male dwarfquisitor would romance Dagna.
Dagna was never confirmed as anything other than being in the game. It was just pure speculation on the part of the posters.
Side tangent: Where do people get the notion that a Varric romance is somehow going to ruin a friendship with him? I haven't seen the friendships directly suffer as a result of the romance arc, myself. YMMV with Anders.
I don't see the friendship getting ruined. I felt Isabela and Hawke were still buddies with the romance. I've done friendships and romance with Isabela and never felt it changed how much of a good friend she turns out to beDagna was never confirmed as anything other than being in the game. I can't really explain it, I just...it's almost like he's on a pedestal, untouchable.
On the other hand, if he's the exact same Varric from DA2, then his character stagnates and isn't nearly as interesting.

...I'm still confused. I'm not seeing where it says THERE WILL NEVER BE A ROMANCE OUTSIDE OF THE COMPANIONS AND ADVISERS.

Maybe they're scared that somehow the romance part of it would be more fulfilling than 'just' friends if you don't want to romance him. Some of the Mass Effect romances felt that way to me, especially Jack and Tali. Where it feels like it sort of just stops very abruptly. Then again, the Dragon Age teams never really had any issues with that in my expirience, I remember both Leliana and Morrigan as people my Warden really got to know and hang with, and even if you could romance them, not doing so didn't make the friendship any less great.
I'm just staying out of the romance forum for now because the doubts are getting me emotional ugh, I'm pathetic
