I really didn't like the Virmire situation. I mean, there's one character I like and one I'm not very fond of so it's never a difficult decision in that respect, but even if I don't like a companion, having to sacrifice them just makes you feel so... horrible. :/ Was a very humbling moment in video game history for me.

Agreed. I believe it was the first time I had to make a decision like that in a game. I remember pausing hte game and being like OMG what do I do? Which, isn't common for me (typically I play shooters as a run around screaming and shooting everything while laughing manaically... shh) so it was such a difference compared to anything I expected.

I'm worried still about the scene in the demo from Inquisition in which we see Sera fall over. We know followers can leave, we know they can be tortured, what if they can die in battle? It isn't unheard of in Bioware's games... but I already love all of them so much! If Varric dies, I'll turn the game off. I wouldn't be able to handle it.

Yep... I think it's safe to say if I accidentally cause someone to die, I'm going to be reloading the game. If the situation isn't forced on me, I can't let it happen. It's why I was so overly cautious about the suicide mission in ME2.

The second time I beat DA:O was as a mage where I had romance Alistair and made him king. Then I brought him to the top of Fort Drakon and he

I was so mad at him. I turned the game off when the white light started and redid the whole thing, leaving him down on the floor to lead the troops.

That happened on my first file where I romanced him and refused the DR... I was crying by the time the credits came on screen.  Ugh that was bad. I had to live with those decisions that time lol.

I audibly gasped when the badguys throw Sera's limp body to the side like that.

This is embarrassing to admit but the first time I played Mass Effect 2 and go to the suicide mission, the completionist I was had spent all the time getting EVERY upgrade on the ship (with out knowing I needed certain ones for the suicide mission) and everyone survived getting to the ship. BUT, I was so scared I'd cause someone to die so I had like an anxiety attack and saved right after you get off the ship and didn't play for months because I didn't want anyone to die XD

haha it's all good, I'm sorta the same way. I played it through but the whole time my chest was tight with fear that something was going to **** up. x( I can't believe I managed to get everyone to live without cheating. That's seriously like my biggest video game accomplishment. xD

My friend, on the other hand... she wasn't updating anything, I had noticed... and she was getting so close to the ending. I was trying so hard not to spoil anything for her, but I finally broke when we went out to eat together and she started talking about the game. I was just like. "By the way... have you been updating your ship? It's really important because... *chokepeoplemightdiealotofpeoplemightdiechoke*

I'm glad I warned her because that would have been bad. >.> I think nearly everyone would have died on her file. She not only had no upgrades, but she also hadn't done any f the side missions for spare parts. It's just such the opposite of how I play...I can't go to the ending if there's still an open mission in my log, it bothers me too much. XD

My first playthrough I'd romanced Leliana, and let Alistair sacrifice himself. The second time I refused to let Anora take the throne (not realizing at the time that I was going to finish another ten playthroughs and have a million other unfinished playthroughs). His eulogy for you was so awesome.

I'm a huge loser and after experiencing that always did the DR on every single file. x( I did look up his eulogy on youtube for a romanced warden and it was so sweet. askjajdaklsk.

Some people are really "concerned" that DA:I will have a self-sacrificing protagonist, but I'd totally submit (giggity) for the sake of Varric and the others (a few times).

That was my lame attempt to bring us back on topic. xD

That was a good attempt! Mine are always "So yeah... about that Varric guy..." :P

I would be more willing to sacrifice my player rather than have one sacrifice for me. If my first file had just been my character dying (like I had intended, alistair  <_< ) I wouldn't have been so upset. And if that does end up a thing, I'm positive it will only be one outcome and totally avoidable for people who don't like that kinda stuff. So actually I'd kinda like it, for variety's sake.

I dunno. My first playthrough of ME, I was romancing Kaidan and picked Ashley because I thought Shepard might cry over his picture before the end (having seen the romance scene my husband played through), and was disappointed that he wasn't even a thing to her. o.O (This was after playing DA:O (my first bioware game; obtained at release) four times at least.

I'd let Varric (or whoever) sacrifice themselves at least one, to see what the dev's did with it.

there are 3 people i will not sacrifice in inquisition, even if i have to burn my console.  Those are Cassandra, Varric, and Leliana.  Everyone else is expendable, but i try to avoid sacrifices at all costs, cause i like having all the options for my teams

Hmm for me it would be: Sera, Varric and Iron Bull. Probably also Leliana, because as a returning character I'm already attached to her for reasons. Not Cullen so much because he was always a minor character. Although I would be super sad if anyone died and probably throw a fit. I'm never one of those people keen to kill off characters I don't like, and that also includes letting them die.

i just dont like being limited in my strategies, i mean i usually have my main party set by midgame, but there are times when i have to exchange one party member for one of a different class to fit my strategy, so i like to have the flexibility.  Plus it felt really weird when you could fight 1/2 your team at endgame in da2.

I suppose I'm a bit selfish. In games where I create a character I absolutely refuse to sacrifice them.

I remember in Fallout 3

Spoiler
I also always pick Destroy in Mass Effect.

In fact I've only let a character die once...it was in my City Elf play through of Origins.

Spoiler

And I've never played a City Elf since. That was my one noble sacrifice, and I never, EVER want to do it again.  :crying:

I always do the ritual. FOR SCIENCE!

It's too tempting. I always avoid death at all cost, and I'll just have to live with that in my games. Giving Morrigan a soul of an old god, what could possibly go wrong?

Edit: can't do English in the morning it seems

:( Aw... maybe it's just late but that's touching, lol. That's the thing about Alistair, even when he pisses me off, he's too sweet for me  to ever stay mad. >:/

I don't like sacrificing my characters either, though. I guess I just prefer it to letting others die, but I'm a sap and prefer the cliche endings where everyone lives. :P I only did Destroy once just to get that extra at the end but the fact of who I was sacrificing broke my heart. x(

I really wonder what kind of difference it might make if you import a game where the DR was refused... I wonder if she finds a way around it... or it's just retconned. xD;

Much as I love Brian Bloom's voice, a sudden image came to me of a Dinklage voiced Varric....and it was awesome.

Be careful what you wish for.

Not every actor can do voice work.

Well at least you found it sweet. :P  I found it utterly traumatizing. Especially when Morrigan walked out on me. I remember my final dialogue with her was just me begging her to stay.

I'm actually fine with character death in most stories, just not when it's a character I created.
