Varric in general and any banter included. Also, the kind-of open world idea seems like fun to explore.
Probably won't use mounts if I find out it limits party banter, at least for the first thirty world states. Fast travel's another matter. Presume there'll be some kind.

I figure I'm not going to get too depressed unless a member of the DA team tells me that Varric isn't a LI. Until then, nothing wrong with holding onto some hope. Luke's a great guy, but he isn't a dev. Try not to stress it.

I dunno I think there's a bit more to Oghren then what's on the surface. If you take him with you on the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest he has a really sad line with the Guardian of the Ashes. He talks about how he believes he's failed at his life, his honor is forfeit and he wishes he could have been a better husband to Branka. Tugged at my heartstrings it did.
I didn't really care for his portrayal in Awakening because of that. It seemed like he was trying to turn his life around and then he ran up and joined the Wardens and did exactly what he shouldn't have done to be a better husband.

Plus, his alcoholism playing played up largely for laughs. I'm a reformed alcoholic, as is my husband and my father, so I didn't find Oghren funny or cute. I thought it was pathetic and I really hated what they did to the character during that expansion.

I think I read the dev in question was pressured into it and regretted okaying it. I did like his personal quest, but I wonder how it changes if one doesn't hook him up with Felsi?

That was David Gaider himself, actually. And no, nothing changes with his story if you skip his personal quest in Origins, just like his affection and skills not carrying over either. Oghren has a kid with Felsi regardless of player (in)action.

It is midnight and I have a midterm coming up... stress is all I have! (I'm actually being pretty chill, but its fun to be overdramatic so that it seems like I'm working harder on my homework than I am - that is how graduate school works!)

That is something I would not like, or I can just slowly trot I suppose to have some kind of banter happen hopefully.
I think there will be fast travel at certain points, but it might make you ride anyway since it would be a waste to put mounts in there if it is not going to be used, haha.
I think I'm going to be disappointed if Blackwall and Viv aren't LIs, Blackwall so my inquisitor on my Alistair-is-a-warden run can have someone to romance and Vivienne because sometimes I wanna be ambitious, just ask Lady Cousland.
Whether I want them more than Varric depends on the day. Varric I expect I will enjoy regardless of whether I romance him or not. The LI tends to stay in my party most and the only reason Varric doesn't stay in my party more is because I game the approval.

It's really too bad. It undid all the growth he underwent and any chance for further development. I liked Oghren in Origins (Anvil of the Void was actually my favorite quest line in the game and I always brought him with me for it) but I really wasn't a fan of his portrayal in Awakening.

Neither am I. Trust me, there'll be tears from me should the worst happen...but we've had a pretty good vibe in this thread since it started. No fights, no banning, no mod swooping in and saying STOP THAT which is better than a lot of other threads have fared. I'd like to keep that going. And the way it looks so far, it will. We've got a good a crowd in here if I do say so myself.

That's the way I'm going to approach it. If the devs tell us to stop asking, that Varric is (goddess help me) "Biancasexual," or otherwise not available, then I'll let this go. Until then, my hope stays firmly where it's at.
I still think Varric going to be a LI. On the upside, when I asked the romance thread how they would feel about it if he was available, most had a pretty favorable reaction to the idea. So that's a plus.
