Hey, it's not that bad tomorrow! It's between 5-9 AM depending on your time zone. :) I'm most likely going to be dependent on you guys to report all the good things from that press conference!

So, the banter where Varric tells Anders it's not a good story unless the hero dies, it kinda makes me wonder if it's foreshadowing?  Maybe he changed his mind and he censored Hawke's untimely demise from Cassandra, to be revealed in Inquisition?  Or maybe, as others have speculated, we find evidence of Hawke having died between games, doing something awesome.

Definitely foreshadowing. It's all over the place in DA2.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll be on here as soon as it's over gushing about all the new info. The real problem will be getting me to shut up about it. XD

I wouldn't be surprised, it's actually a likely scenario depending on you Hawke. Mine are all on the run with Anders, I'm not seeing a happy ending there.

I certainly hope not, I wasn't too fond of my hawke but that doesn't mean I want him to die. I'd be a little sad if we do find out that's the case but as long as my Wardens okay, I can live with it I guess.

I think that's more of a joking reference to the True Art is Angsty school of thought. It's just somewhat ironic that it comes in the middle of Dragon Age II.

A lot of mine are, too. I saw an answered question on the raptur Q&A awhile back where someone asked if Anders was canonically still alive, and they said "I don't think so." So... I'm not sure where that puts half of my Hawkes... XD

Currently playing a run where my Cousland was unaccustomed to making (good) decisions, and the resulting Hawke is a mage with a warden brother and Anders.

Just bought the signet ring.  Wonder if that'll get a line of dialog?

I always thought that rather than be about Hawke, it was a snide jab towards Anders who clearly thinks he's the hero of his own story and is acting as a courageous "Rebel Mage" willing to fight and die for mage freedom, whereas Varric only sees someone with a fairly obvious martyrdom complex.

As a side note, I've always wondered if Anders acting differently from his characterisation in Awakening was less to do with his merging with Justice (although it was still a factor) and more of how Varric interpreted his character, which was marked badly by Anders' actions at the end of the game.

That's an interesting thought. I wouldn't be surprised if Varric did dramatize some parts of the story and character's personalities. He's known to do such things. :P

That's an interesting point. It would explain why both Anders and Fenris sounded like two broken records. I can see Varric getting tired of hearing the same arguments over and over again and turning it up to 11 when he's retelling  the story for Cassandra.

Varric even tells Cassandra "Don't remind me. I introduced them [Hawke and Anders]."

It's clear that while Varric considers (considered?) Anders a friend, he does not like his actions much. He's more than likely reasonably pissed to have had to leave Kirkwall, which is still probably in a horrid state. I can't blame him. I SPARED Anders only because Merrill said he might be able to redeem himself. Then Varric says that Anders stayed with Hawke after the events of Act 3 and I was just sitting there, thinking- "No. We're done!"

I feel like becoming a terrorist and betraying my Hawke's trust like that was a very good reason to end the relationship. I could see Varric being like, I'm not going to kill you, but we're not friends anymore Anders.

It'd certainly explain why we have Varric's conversations with Anders tending to come across as rather snippy, yet we also have chummy scenes when Hawke walks in on their conversation about the Blackmarsh, the reveal that Varric regularly plays cards with Anders, as well as Bodahn's comments about a romanced Anders that they really like him and he gets on well with Sandal.

It always seemed to me that Varric was exaggerating his character and even if they were friends, Anders really lost his trust after he blew up the Chantry and caused everyone Varric cared about to be forced to flee Kirkwall.

(I think Varric does the same with Sebastian, who he seems to really not like due to being Captain Chantry)

*eye twitch* Why was there no option to put a knife in Seb's back? I'm not one for wanting to murder characters but the man threatened to kill an entire city to get to one man that he could try to take out right then and there and probably wouldn't even be in the city by time he gets his army IF he gets his army. I really hope that backfired on Sebastian something fierce.

Aimo art to make me cheerful again after that rant.

I really like Alec Newman as an actor, yet he did end up playing two of the biggest pain in the necks in the entire game in my view.

At least Sebastian was fine when he wasn't being Ned Flanders, unlike Seneschal Bran, who was just a colossal tool at every turn to Hawke.

Very true, lol. I loved DA2 but I'm really hoping this installment doesn't have as many characters that left me wishing I could have punched them in the face every time I talked to them.

You're all horrible. Sebastian was my bro.

I used him quite a bit in Act 3, since he was more durable and versatile than Varric.

Aw, I like Bran.

I mean, he's a grouchy pain in the ass, but given all the pointless political BS he has to put up with working for the viscount I can't really blame him. And a lot of his dialogue with Hawke comes off like he's trying to give information but still give himself deniability. To me, anyway.

... Granted, I'm a lot more sympathetic to Sebastian than a lot of people here are, at least in that scene. I mean, yeah, he's being melodramatic and dumb, but his parental figure just got murdered. I can cut him some slack for that.

Those are great ideas.  Maybe if we see Anders or Fenris in Inquisition they'll be a bit more...rational?

Oh i get why Seb is upset I get that 100% I still don't condone him damning an entire city for what one man did and I can't cut him slack for not doing it him myself after all Anders was right there and if there had been an option I would have told Sebastian to do it himself if he wanted Anders dead so badly. If you want something done, do it don't try to make someone else do it for you.

More Varric Art Now.
