That's the way I'm going to approach it.  If the devs tell us to stop asking, that Varric is (goddess help me) "Biancasexual," or otherwise not available, then I'll let this go.  Until then, my hope stays firmly where it's at.

 

I still think Varric going to be a LI.  On the upside, when I asked the romance thread how they would feel about it if he was available, most had a pretty favorable reaction to the idea.  So that's a plus.

Just like when I couldn't understand why people wouldn't want a qunari-qunari AS WELL AS a tal-vashoth or vashoth.  Seriously, who looks at a game like Dragon Age and thinks, "I want LESS options here!"

I agree, it's just silly in a RPG to go, "Nope, I don't want more choices.  Please, don't give me another potential cool character with a romance."  I will never understand that.  Then there are those that go, "Well, since I don't have the bulk of the options anymore, no one should get them.  BW hates us in X group."

 

Yeah...I think I need to stay out of the Feedback section, which is where most of those folks have been starting threads.

I don't get why people get so bothered about what someone chooses to do in their single player campaign. It's not hurting anyone and it's not detracting from whatever someone else does in it. Live and let game.

I just love the title of the Cass thread.  That's probably exactly what's going on, with her the only one with a mature streak, even counting Vivienne, Blackwall, and Solas.  Helps that I keep picturing Cass with a facial expression.

I can't say there is a companion so far that I don't find at least funny, awesome or interesting.  The only one that I don't like as of pre-release is Vivienne, mainly due to her attitude, her scathing and cruel wit, and the fact she's been compared to one of the most heinous forms of French cuisine I've ever seen.  We're talking worse than foil gras here.  

 

 However, I didn't like Morrigan at all at first and she's became my favorite gal/gal friendship in Origins (and is just behind 'Bela's friendship on my list of greatest DA gal pals.)  So my opinion on Vivienne is subject to possible change when the game actually comes out.

I do like the idea of Varric being more strongly tied into the story.  I'm even okay with him dying as long as it's not overblown.  Preferably, I'd like to be able to avoid it under the right conditions.

 

 

What would be fun would be that in order to get a "perfect" ending, one must do something that at face value seems to be the WRONG idea.  And we won't know about it until we get to the ending.  After that it'll be a sadistic headgame: Do I stop the darkspawn from starting a new blight, or get a perfect ending where everyone lives and is happy (until the next blight)?

Same here.  I'm not as venomous as some I've seen, but most of the companions and advisers I've been like, "Ho, hum."  Then I start thinking of the implications of their potential romances, like Blackwall being tragically sweet, or Vivienne being a gateway to social/political power, or just the weirdness of their existence, like Cole.

Aw thanks. I'm so glad! I'm pretty insecure about my traditional artwork... it's easier to fix-up things you make on a computer, imo. xP But I couldn't help it. I love this  thread so much and it made me wanna draw him! haha

I just realized something...when it comes to the possible remaining LIs, we are the underdogs of the DA fans.  

 

I mean, think about it: The general consensus among the other posters is that Varric just won't be available.  Whether it be for the sake of fairness towards other groups (if he's available to straight women, then someone is going to be left out, whereas that wouldn't be the case with anyone else apparently) him being hooked on Bianca still because it's "romantic" or because they just want him as their "bro*" and his status as a LI would affect that, somehow.

 

We're asking for a romance from the least played race, from a company that has never done a dwarven romance in 15 years of doing this sort of content.  We might as well have the words "glutton for punishment" tattoo'd on our backs.

Urgh....The Bianca thing is just... Ugh... Fairness? Where is the fairness for ours if that is what the general consensus is right now. And sadly...if they want no romance with Varric, THEY DO NOT NEED TO TRY AND ROMANCE HIM just to be BFF's. That is the poorest ideal and sadly it is just wearing on me like a thick-mud cover.

 

People do not need to romance him and they can get their buddy-buddy thing. But at least it should be given a chance like you said.

Mass-Effect.... Garrus/Shepard. WHO KNEW THAT WOULD WORK? I think they also pulled it off very well.

 

Then some would give Iron-Bull a shot or think he will be chosen but go meh on Varric is kind of sad.

It's likely there will be at least some animations they could reuse that are M/M involving a male dwarf, if technical reasons are the concern.

I think his race is a small part of it, but I think the other part was him being such a good friend to the player in the last game.  It's hard to get out of the friendzone once you're in it.  It's been years for me, but I remember very well.

I see no reason he couldn't, and I would actually prefer him not to be straight actually, so the LI choices wouldn't be more uneven and more people could be happy. :3

To be honest I think it's mostly the race, in regards to people not wanting to romance him or not even considering the possibility. If he was a human or elf instead of a dwarf, I have little doubt that the romance fandom would be as large as cullen's is now or larger. Garrus was a "bro" character in ME1 but that didn't stop plenty of people from wanting to **** him.

Yeah... although my argument for that would be, this is the Inquisitor and not Hawke, so no friendzone established yet right? :/ Plus they did it very well with Garrus, and our pc was even the same person that time who could have been stuck as friends but was given the option to make it something more.
