So back where I was speculating that Varric does, "Previously, on Dragon Age..." segments? Perhaps the dialog is all pre-scripted based on what the final decision was, since the ones that weren't there aren't going to hear the subtle nuances of things that the player might, like the warden wanting to spare all available mages because mercy, but getting less and less sure as s/he goes up the tower, eventually deciding better safe than sorry. But the combat is player controlled, and perhaps worth some bonus EXP, at least on the first telling.
Varric: And then our hero burst through the door, to find the mage healer Wynne, guarding the mage children.
*Wynne looks much like DA2 Flemeth and is aggressively posed, her staff held in front of her, paralell to the floor*
Wynne: You'll not harm these children while I still draw breath!
Varric: Our hero calmly looked into the old sage's eyes and saw the essence of faith itself, and knew s/he'd found an ally. Her/his words calmed the mage, and, lead by the spirit of faith, came to the top of the tower, where...
*Uldred in full pride mode, no preceding dialog, fight begins*
Varric: With the creature slain, our hero helped the first enchanter to his feet and escorted him to the floor where the templars waited...
