You know, that really should have been the prologue we saw instead of uber-Hawke.

 

Inquisition will reveal we're dealing with a situation like in that awesome movie "Without a Clue", where rather than Sherlock Holmes/The Champion of Kirkwall being a real person, they're simply an actor playing the literary invention of Watson/Varric, who was the real hero all along.

 

And since Hawke was a penniless merc in Act 1 and often forced to accept all manner of weird and wonderful tasks simply because they needed the cash, I could totally see them being up for this kind of gig!

Well, it's that or not having the ability to romance him. They made it clear in DA2 were he stands and that was before they knew he would be playable in the next game. I think it would irritate me more if they changed him just to make him an LI for everybody.

While I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't available to humans or qunari (though I prefer he wasn't, he is one of the most likely companions most likely to be race-gated), we have no reason to believe he isn't into elves or men. I wish people would stop assuming characters are heterosexual and absolutely could not be bisexual just because they've dated a woman in the past and Bioware chooses to only give a flirt option to female characters...which Varric rejected anyways.

 

That said, I don't think many people in this thread have a problem with playing a female dwarf. My first character in Origins was a casteless female dwarf and I was disappointed we couldn't play one in DA2. If Varric has a romance, I'll definitely play a female dwarf. If not I might play a female Qunari, just because they are badass and then I can play as a mage too, but I haven't decided yet.

 

Hey, she wanted him to tell her everything. Including the...quirks. :S
