In Dragon Age 2 you got rivalry points for being overly aggressive, thuggish and callous. He didn't like when Hawke threatened people, killed people or betrayed people. I think in DA:I, if the Inquisitor is bloodthirsty and not loyal to allies, Varric wouldn't stand for that. I think in Inquisition particularly, he also cares about the plight of the common people, as shown by his reaction to letting the village get slaughtered. So if the Inquisitor sacrifices people in order to gain more power, he wouldn't like that either.

So, just wondering what the general consensus is about who the remaining LI's are in here? I think it was talked about yesterday(?) but I missed out on the last bit cuz work.

 

 

I'm thinking....

 

1.) Varric :straight + racegate

2.) Iron bull: Bi + racegate

3.) Vivienne: Bi

Most people think Vivienne is a love interest at this point because the 8 romances are all companions/advisors and she's only the female companion left not confirmed yet (Leliana is confirmed not to be a romance). It's possible that they may go with 3 female love interests and 5 male ones, but I don't expect that they will.

 

For the males, I think Ironbull is most expected, then Solas, then Blackwall, then Varric.

I thought Blackwall was least expected because people speculate he might be going through his calling? Then again, what's a Bioware romance without a little drama...hmmm, I agree about Vivienne though.

Inspired by us talking about an awkward/shy Varric during a romance, I attempted to sketch him (or any dwarf) for the first time, for the thread.  Just don't look at it too long or you'll notice it has a lot of mistakes, lol.

Well, having a death looming over the shoulder didn't stop Thane from being a love interest. I think Varric is at the bottom of the list in terms of being expected only because he's a dwarf.

What if bianca was alive, we were in a relationship with varric and we ran into her and she wanted him back? What would you do/say to her?

 

Ummm she can back off... she left him, remember? For reals, though, I have thought about this. I guess it depends somewhat on her attitude. Ultimately, I think he would be conflicted and disbelieving, since it has been so long.

@Oracle I haven't thought that far to be honest, about any of the characters. I guess I haven't thought about dismissing any of them yet, especially Varric. From the little demo video from last year, I probably would have gone to save the village too, so I doubt we'll butt heads much on my first character.

Ever since I heard about race gating, my mind immediately went to Varric and (who we know now as) Iron Bull. Just try not to be depressed. If they're right and we're wrong, then nothing has changed. We'll have music, crying gifs and a lot of e-hugs, then carry on.

If we're right and they're wrong, then all I can ask is to not go screaming, "I TOLD YOU SO!!" into the Romance thread. No matter how tempting it might be. Varric fans take the high road. Like Varric, we must always strive to stay classy.

I actually think we Varric fans are some of the classiest fans on BSN! This thread is one of the calmest and sanest on here (and full of the best fan art!)!
And until a dev says no to a Varric romance, my hope is still intact! (but saying it's because of being hung up on Bianca is just not going to fly!)

Yeah, Thane's arc was pretty sad...but there was alot backlash over his death if I'm remember correctly. Actually, that might've been more about how he died, than his actual death (but some people were pretty peeved about it in general). So, if they're planning on killing Blackwall off, they may just avoid making a romance at all to save heartache. _{then again this is bioware were talking about, reaper of fan-tears}

The romance thread depresses me. It's 90% everyone but Varric has a chance of romance, it makes me sad!
Personally I think the race gating has helped improve his chances, and I'll take having to roll a dwarf over not romancing him at all.
I'm still interested in Varrics reasons for being involved in the Inquisition, perhaps he wants to find Hawke, or it's related to the red lyrium and the Thaig they discovered. I'm sure whatever his arc is it will be interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing him that's not necessarily the 'BFF' role, and wondering what you could do to make him leave the Inquisition?!

 

I've been thinking about this, too. The videos say that all of the members of the Inquisition are specialists and leaders in their own fields. Varric has a lot of contacts, but he has never lived anywhere besides Kirkwall... so what reason does he have? Maybe that is why the devs won't talk about his story much, yet.
