[Solaria]

How come Varric/Qunari Inquisitor seems to be a popular pairing in fan art? Just the short/tall contrast?

 

For me,it's the oddest, most unlikely pairing that I can think of and imagining how the interactions would go is amusing, the height difference is just a bonus.

Thank you muchly! I actually like all of those potential options for her -- Varric and Sera were already ones who crossed my mind (immediately of course), but Solas, I hadn't thought of him! That might be interesting. :3

I don't know if they would do something like that again... given the fanbase reaction. But some people did give him the lyrium idol, sooo... no, no... thoughts going to bad places, don't wanna go there. :|

I know this would have little to do with it, but I feel that in favor of an argument believing that Varric's personality will not have changed would be that Brian Bloom probably knows and feels the character by now, having portrayed him so much. I'm not arguing that he mightn't be written differently, but even if he's more morose after all he's seen, I feel it will transition well. (:

I think Varric is going to be slightly different, yes, but I don't think it'll be anything jarring Anders-level. More natural progression. 

 

He was always a good person at heart in DA2, and from what I've gathered, that part of him might just be a little more prevalent now than it was before. He seems to be vocally objecting to more pragmatic player decisions much more than in DA2. I've heard it speculated that perhaps he's starting to feel guilty about being partially responsible for letting red lyrium on the world, or maybe even for introducing Hawke and Anders, which he already seemed to regret during Cassandra's interrogation. 

 

Or, he's just in a more serious situation now than he was in DA2 and the end of the world 'isn't a story he wants to tell,' and it brings out the heart of gold to the forefront. That kinda thing. 

 

My two cents, anyway. I guess we'll see. :S

Ok, Bioware. We have been good boys and girls and waited paitently as you announced LI after LI, never hearing Varric's name. It has now been years since we first learned of the game, and we really REALLY need some information about Varric.

Well, think about it a second. He was the one telling the story. Technically speaking, he would have a bias and he could still put a spin on things, consciously or not. Especially with his own representation. There are several occasions in the story that he goes off to the extreme, then pulls it back in, and this could be a way to establish a false sense of trust. There is at least one occasion the story seems to indicate that he was a bit manipulative with Hawke. You can see the man that he punched when you first meet him, in the hanged man dressed up in noble cloths and with a black eye. 

 

I for one as a story teller and writer with a particular obsession with character building, would be very disappointed if there wasn't some change in his personality. Given the fact he is not telling the story anymore. I'm hopeful to see if he is some kind of manipulative magnificent bastard.

 

But I'm also in the camp, Anders personality change was warranted thanks to Justice. So my ideas tend to be unpopular.

Though I feel very frustrated at no Varric news.
