Ooh, thanks for posting that! It's a really interesting article.
“What the writing team has done is they’ve laid out certain beats which could cause reactivity,” said Laidlaw. Each writer has individually analyzed a beat and assessed how specific characters should respond to you and the situation around them. Some characters may care about something, another may not. How that goes down could affect your long-term relationships -- romantic or otherwise.
I really like the sound of this. If they pull this off well, I think it should make the companions a whole lot more interesting, make it feel like you can really interact with them.
I wouldnt even be able to take it seriously if they killed Varric. Because it would be the most blatant attention grab possible. They would be killing an incredibly well loved character for no reason at all, other then to get reactions.
They may as well have the villain go "Nya nya!!" afterwords and stick his tongue out at you.
I'd be surprised if they'd kill off Varric and make it unavoidable if they did, but if they did I'd probably just be more angry than sad. Sometimes it is just too obvious when a writer is trying to make you feel sad by killing a character off, even when it doesn't make sense. For example, in ME3, I thought Mordin's death was fitting and very sad. They really pulled that one off well, but Legion's just pissed me off even though I loved Legion as much as Mordin because it made zero sense...and don't even get me started on Hawke's mom dying...
Hmm...interesting find. However what I find more troublesome is that she appears to be unequipped from Varric with Varric nowhere in sight....maybe you can only destroy her if Varric is...well...you know...
Nah, in the demo when they went to select companions, Varric was still included in the party selection screen.
If you hit destroy you probably get an audio file to play. "Not going to happen!" or something.
hah. I think Varric would leave the Inquisition if you tried that. "How...how could you?!"
