Yeah, I'm not too worried. We could be joining the peace talks to keep an eye on it and make sure not only pro-Circle mages have a voice. Or for any other number of reasons, like our family.

I'm sure there were mages who were excited for the rebellion but still felt like they should keep quite until there was more news. Perhaps our human!mages will be quiet supporters, if you so choose?

Yeah, I was seeing Bayram to be slimmer. But that concept art kinda looks like a lady to me so maybe they weren't misleading us?

Also has anyone noticed that all the BG stories EXCEPT the human involves you being a spy for whatever faction you were a part of?

Dwarf? Carta spy
Elf? Dalish spy
Kossith? Mercenary spy

human? your family forced you to go (mage? your circle did)

I dunno, I always thought it looked sorta masculine....But either way, I still would have liked to make a slimmer Qunari male. I'm not a huge fan of the one we just saw on the site. ^_^ It's not gonna stop me from playing one though, I have a mighty need to romance a Qunari with Josephine. A MIGHTY NEED!! <3 I blame fanart..

One notion I had for a qunari mage was that they cut her horns and dressed her as a saarebas (hence the name) so that if they met any actual qunari they could go, "Oh, no, really!  We are a qunari squad also!  See, this saarebas is properly leashed and collared!  We are not lying, definitely not!"

For my first saarebas, though, I'm thinking a set of tall, proud horns, not unlike Flemeth or the Arishok.  I'll leave the headcanoning for later.

It's all in how you play, I suppose.

I read that they just thought it would be funny if Sandal said some creepy nonsense and it wasn't supposed to mean anything, but it is kinda starting to sound like the plot of DAI.

That's what I thought, but "the Sky's opening up" "when he rises", yeahhhh that sounds like inquisition a lot! I'm so excited to seeeeee

I don't think my Adaar would like being a mercenary, but would see it necessary to stay free and it fits into her always moving background anyway.

I think of my Bayram and I think this fits with him. I don't think he was "at home" with the mercenaries and was still a bit of a loner.

The Carta Cadash thing is interesting though. Vollna's apparently part of a crime-family (THE MOB?!) lol although I was never married to an idea of her past I did picture her to have a strong family bond- perhaps her family was a merchant trader with fine dwarven crafts straight from orzammar! so maybe this fits? ... maybe i should watch the godfather for reference...

Agreed. I wonder how Varric will like my Cadash being an (ex?)Carta member? How will the Carta feel about that? I don't like the Carta but does Vollna? Is this gonna have something like Mass Effect where your past is gonna be asking for favors with your new status and all?

Alllllll very interesting.

Yeah, I'm really curious about that. Varric probably knows how it feels to have to work with a shifty organization in name of your family, with his relationship with the Merchants Guild and all, but it is entirely possible he's also had bad run-ins with the Carta. I'm hoping we'll get to be buddies and bond over how we've both had to work with organizations we'd rather not in name of family. I loved that bit in Origins, where you could bond with Morrigan over the fact that you both had cruel mothers that lead to a difficult upbringing for you.

I wonder if that background means our human mages can't be rebels who welcomed the fall of their Circle...

Maybe your Circle fell due to the Rebellion even though you didn't support it yourself? Or you're representing the pro-Circle mages?

Qunari are actually sent as hired swords, but I find that pretty cool too! I think the Qunari and Dwarven backgrounds sound the coolest actually. Human Noble is, eh... expected. and it will be fun to get to be Dalish again ~

I'm just excited about all the backgrounds in general. Knowing the info about the Dalish background does make me more interested in playing a Dalish mage now, though. I already knew I wanted to play a female dwarven rogue (who will hopefully be romancing Varric, otherwise Sera will do) and a female qunari mage (who will probably romance Josephine), but I want to eventually romance Dorian too, if I do enough playthroughs. A male Dalish mage is now sounding pretty interesting too. Having this info has helped solidify my plans for my characters quite a bit.

Edit: Oops, forgot to add that I wanted to say that I'm sure the male Qunari mage is only so buff because they made only one model per race/gender combo. I bet outside the context of the game, male Qunari can be more a lean sort of muscular too (not as much as humans, but still). After all, a human male mage in Origins was just as buff as the human male warrior, even if that didn't really make any sense. Sucks that we can't play as a leaner one, though. It would be an interesting look.

I'm actually kinda hoping that there is an option to cut kossith horns. It's probably painful but people do all sorts of things in the name of self expression. I had wondered if the kossith quizzy would have cut his/her horns to be less "weird" in the lands outside the qun.

I think I read it's like fingernail.  Cutting it doesn't hurt, but I imagine if they do so too deep it might.

Those backgrounds have made me think up another couple of Inquisitors, this thread is a bad influence. Jk, I love this place.

It's been confirmed that qunari Inquisitors can have a pick of horn types and no horns, so I expect cut horns to be an option.

Knowing about the Cadash/Dwarven background is gonna help me make an awesome Dwarf. I'm thinking I'll go chaotic neutral for my first Dwarf and have her as someone who enjoyed the crime life and living all for herself and nobody else, but the Inquisition ends up kind of giving her a new fondness for responsibility and leading. :3 and hopefully falls in love with Varric who will bring out her more empathetic side.

Well i have no personal experience, but my great, great uncle did.

He was over in West Africa for a bit back in the 50s before Ivory hunting got illegal and he indicated it was extremely painful for the elephants to have their tusks removed.

Good money in it though, but anyway i'd say it likely would hurt for a oxman to have their horns cut off.

I can't wait to see all the qunari horn choices.  it's the little things that makes me happy... lol

I hope it's an option, for those that want to be able to do so, I wouldn't use it but it's nice to have a choice.

Eeee! I'm so excited! I hope if we have siblings this time around as a dwarf, we don't have a younger bro who's all "I wanna be king"... less back-stabby than Prince Bhelen and more gun-ho than Rica

I think my Cadash lady would be like a female Varric.  She makes the best out of every situation, and works every encounter into her favor.  The life of a carta dwarf isn't easy, but it's the hand she was dealt.

o_o I don't want to imagine...

I imagine mages have it done young.  I doubt they remember.  But I am excited about all kinds of horn decor and jewelry!  One of the reasons I want Saarebas to have a rack of antlers like a halla.

Its basically a dead trade on this side of the world according to basically every one know i know in the precious materials market.

Its near impossible to get "legal" ivory, as in the stuff that was harvested before the ban got put in place, without paying a fortune for it.

Plus it isn't popular because of the "inhuman" theme that's it been painted with in most societies.

About the only place it's still booming is south east asia and the middle east, they love the crap over there.

HA! I'm  thrilled to know that my random guess about the city of birth for the human Inquisitor was right. Ostwick. BAM! Nailed it! Although, I'm kind of sad Trevelyan is just a noble family, rather than the teryn of Ostwick, especially if the Inquisitor was the oldest child. I think it would have been interesting to have the Inquisitor in a position where they had been pretty much trained from childhood to lead. It would maybe make their job a little easier. (And it would be interesting to kind of explore the effect of only partial training in that area for a mage, who would have lost all that standing as soon as they were taken to the Circle.)

But man, I like all the backgrounds. I definitely think the dwarf has some potential for some really cool interactions with Varric!

but yessss, I'm so curious about the Varric interactions now. Both of them have (in)famous families, how will they converse about them?!
