I'm sure/I hope we won't have to be ruthless it would be a little odd if what race we picked decided the only tone we could use. None of my Cadash are ruthless characters either partly because it doesn't fit them and partly because I can't play them so I doubt we'll be forced to be a 100% cut throat just part of a ruthless family.

Well, the family's ruthless. BioWare's pretty good at letting you figure out who your character is, so we'll probably have a chance to play the white sheep.

No worries! God knows I've missed important information because I haven't gone back to reread. I mean, if nothing else you can play a thief who likes snagging books and learning what she can from them - there's almost always some way to tweak that kind of detail.

Oh, I'm sure we'll have access to the exact same "good" dialogue choices and attitudes that all the other Inquisitors will have.  It just feels a bit odd to be the good child of a crime family reputed to be ruthless.  It doesn't make sense that a child coming from that family and working in that organization can be so... opposite.  You'd have to be a bit ruthless to make it in that world.

I had a bit of the same problem with the Dwarf commoner in DAO.  There were many options for dialogue that would make sense coming from a character with that background, but I could never get them to feel natural for me.  I just couldn't fully get comfortable playing as a character with a criminal background, no matter what options were available to me.

And if people make you feel bad about your family ties you can always go and get a big hug from the most accepting of our companions....Solas.

Yep. Or Iron Bull. He seems to not give a ****. But, I'd be careful about your ribs.

This is how my Aeducan always felt about her family/Orzammar after the origins story

I'm not sure the age would matter, simply the affiliation.  I guess it all depends on Varric's capacity for holding a grudge.  They've hinted that he still bares a lot of resentment towards the Qunari for the events in Kirkwall, and it seems like the Carta made things a lot more personal than that.

It would be a cruelly ironic twist of fate if Varric ended up being a race-gated love interest gated against Dwarves, specifically because the only Dwarf you can be is from the organization that is his nemesis.

That's a very good point. Still, I think that if our quizzies were too young or not even aware of what was going on with Bianca, he'd be more understanding. It's not the biggest deal to me if Varric isn't romanceable via my lovely lady dwarf because of this. I just agree with clockwork here....

I kinda like it, except it ruins my notion of doing an Dwarf Warden/Cadash+Varric.

because I really want some dwarf-on-dwarf lovin' this go 'round.

I've thought about that too Gann, in fact that might make for an amazing storyline, romance subplot.  What the Inquisition is dealing with is so much bigger than the Carta, I think there could be learning for all.  Cadash Inquisitor can't help who their parents are...

yes, exactly. I think Varric is a big enough man to know that. He certainly wouldn't want to be hated for something Bartrand did. He's brother is the back-stabby scumbag, not him. All this thinking just makes me want the game more.

I guess? I have to admit, I never had problems playing a decent Brosca - I can think of at least one who was deeply compassionate, only took the job with the Carta to feed his family, and was constantly frustrated by the situation. Granted a Cadash wouldn't be trapped in the same way, but family ties can be killer. You would have to explain why he grew up that way, admittedly. I can understand why you'd find it frustrating, I just don't see it as impossible to play a Cadash on the lighter side of things and have it make sense. I guess that's just me, though.

yeah, no, I think you're right. it comes off as a little weird, BUT there's always the "black sheep" of the family. The odd-one-out, you know? And there's a difference between doing what you need to do to survive and believing in it... think Tryion from GoT? He's clearly the kindest of the Lannisters (I won't go on to avoid GoT spoilers). Our Cadashes could "play the game" as it were, but it not necessarily enjoy it. I'm very interested int he options that the writers give us to explore that character arc for the Cadash quizzy

Mmmm Iron Bull hugs   Hm? Oh yes Varric thread sorry i just get a little day dreamy at the thought of Iron Bull picking up my Valeria Cadash for a hug~

That's how a lot of my Aeducans feel as well and its not helped by my having a slightly unhealthy love for Gorim till I found out that DAO only takes place in around a year or two and he's already married and having babies. Didn't wait long at all for that did you Gorim *sobs*

Solas is slowly winning me over, or rather his fandom is making him far more desirable to me than initially. They're such a classy bunch! ^.^ I really hope he gets confirmed along with Varric because I don't want to see them disappointed. (Well, I don't want anyone to be disappointed but it's inevitable that someone will be, I'm just particularly fond of the Solas fans.) But I don't think I have to worry about that at this point, their chances are looking pretty good right now. Especially with those tweets from his VA but we won't know for sure, till we know for sure. ^_^

So, one of the devs said who one is (class) determines why they are at the peace talks.  The rogues and the warriors all seemed very much the same, and among the elves, the warriors, rogues, and the mages.  Maybe there is a subtle difference?  Like, if one plays a dwarf warrior, they're carta muscle, bodyguards for the higher-ups, intimidators, etc, but if they're rogues, they're Carta spies and lockpicks?

That's super interesting! Man, I'm so pumped with these new developments!

I also feel a bit bad that the Cadash family seems to have fallen to such levels.  Shayle deserves more from her descendants.

Well, they at least still exist. I didn't think the Cadash's were a thing anymore, considering the state of their Thaig. I think Shayle would be proud that her squishy relatives are tougher in their fleshy bodies than she first assumed lol! She may not like what they do, if she really even cares, but her family beat the odds.

I guess it will all just depend on what options BioWare gives us when addressing our past as a Dwarf.

I'm up to date on the GoT lore, so I know what you're saying.  I definitely agree.

I love Gorim too, his romance subplot in the Dwarf Noble origin is one of my favorite elements.  I go down that path every time I play it.

I don't like playing Elves myself and I don't even have a good reason for it. O_O But I might give it a shot this time round for Solas after seeing the race backgrounds. If I do she'll probably be a Dalish mage as well but I like the thought of a elf Rogue too because of dat archery.

So, people have been speculating that Varric and Cadash might have some bad blood between them. If that is the case - and I can't believe I'm saying this - I actually wouldn't mind too much if he was a dwarf-only romance. I have to say, tying that conflict into the romance arc and watching it play out sounds kind of fascinating.

I mean Varric could be conflicted with dating Qunari peeps because of Kirkwall and now we think he might not wanna date Cadash because of family-affiliated drama BUT Fenris can be romanceable by a mage which (as cool as it is) I think would actually be a big NO in his book and he would hate you 5ever. And that's not the case so I have my hopes up about this.

It would work either way, definitely, but I'm sort of assuming they won't write more than one romance arc for any particular LI. If Varric can romance more than one race, his conflict with Cadash would have to be in the details. But I could be completely wrong.
