I'm sure/I hope we won't have to be ruthless it would be a little odd if what race we picked decided the only tone we could use. None of my Cadash are ruthless characters either partly because it doesn't fit them and partly because I can't play them so I doubt we'll be forced to be a 100% cut throat just part of a ruthless family.
Well, the family's ruthless. BioWare's pretty good at letting you figure out who your character is, so we'll probably have a chance to play the white sheep.
No worries! God knows I've missed important information because I haven't gone back to reread. I mean, if nothing else you can play a thief who likes snagging books and learning what she can from them - there's almost always some way to tweak that kind of detail.
Oh, I'm sure we'll have access to the exact same "good" dialogue choices and attitudes that all the other Inquisitors will have. It just feels a bit odd to be the good child of a crime family reputed to be ruthless. It doesn't make sense that a child coming from that family and working in that organization can be so... opposite. You'd have to be a bit ruthless to make it in that world.
I had a bit of the same problem with the Dwarf commoner in DAO. There were many options for dialogue that would make sense coming from a character with that background, but I could never get them to feel natural for me. I just couldn't fully get comfortable playing as a character with a criminal background, no matter what options were available to me.
