I was talking to someone about this, but I thought I'd share my bit disappointment here.

For one, the fact that we get a Qunari LI but still no dwarf. If there is any dwarf specific gating (or maybe dwarves and another race even) I'll be a bit miffed. My favorite race better not get shafted.


Secondly , I am a bit bothered by how long they dragged it out. Okay a bit is an understatement. Most, if not all the people who wanted a Varric romance were loyal fans from DA2. We deserved the let down earlier and an official translation of the article at least for all fans. Not relying on google translate

Dude, I feel you there. Why have they avoided Dwarves for so long? Like what? Mehhhh not gonna get into it, I'll just get upset. And yes, Bioware marketing stinks for not letting us know earlier, but it's their game, their prerogative I guess.

But I'd like to note that that's two fan wants they've ignored. No dwarf romance and failing to deliver the information in a timely manner. I think I would have preferred to find out in game he wasn't romanceable, but that might be the bitterness talking

I completely agree. Look, BW are saints to their fans (and to poofaces parading as fans who abuse devs left, right and centre) but I do find the dragging out of it irksome. The LI news has been really varied and at some points, almost unprepared (Dorian's romance was confirmed through facebook?WATOK) and yes, LIs are not that important to everyone but it was all a little fuddled.

I'm sure it's not on purpose. BW have never been intentionally cold towards their fans. They are famous for how awesome they are to their fans, actually. Most of the devs that we get to chat to aren't the ones who decide when to release info, anyhow.

 

Just take solace in the fact that they wouldn't have done it all just to upset or tease Varric fans.

Lol yeah, only one Bianca has been faithfully at his side. Still think she's dead though.

And it's not a 'fingers in ears/I'm not listening' thing either. I still think all the evidence is there with the fade and all. Either that or Varric is convinced she's dead and she shows up alive out of no where O_o

Uh, wow. *laughs* Right now I'm still kind of reeling over how random this info was. I'm used to the expectation/disappointment cycle every time BioWare does a panel. Wasn't expecting, "G'MORNING HOW ARE YOU VARRIC'S NOT AN LI BEE-TEE-DUBS." Welp.

 

I'm gonna try to let a day go by before I start griping about how bitter I am. Not gonna swear I'll make it, though.

No, you're right. I love the Bioware writers something fierce and I'm not altogether so upset that there will be no Varric lovin' this game. My bitterness is in no way toward them I trust that they are going to carry Varric through the very best arc they could and the rest of this game for that matter.

Any bitterness or anger I feel now is 100% toward the marketing team for not letting us know sooner. We've been waiting for this confirmation ever since Varric was announced to be in this game. Silence was not an answer.

And I'm not even so mad at them. Just disappointed, you know?

Sigh.  What's most exasperating is the fact that other returning characters were quickly denounced as love interests, whereas Varric was always given an ambiguous answer.  While I'm not heart broken over it, it is disappointing that he isn't a romance, and apparently never will be, and that we're 0/3 on dwarf romances in the dragon age series. 

On the upside, this makes Vivienne more likely by process of elimination.  I had my heart set on Varric and Vivienne both, but I'll settle for Solas/Vivienne.  ;D

I personally don't see why they can't just post hearts next to romanceable characters in their sections on the website. Simple enough right? Maybe even a label to say what races they can romance, and their orientation.
