Wow. I hadn't realized how many fine folks had already offered their sympathies when I made that post a little while ago.
This is truly an excellent fandom.
THIS IS DEVASTATING NEWS. HEARTBROKEN MELODRAMATIC RANT INCOMING.
Romancing Varric was the one thing I was most looking forward to about this game, for a very, very long time. I've been following news on this game like a hawk, even before development started, and now I'm almost regretting spending so much time on it... I'll still play it of course, it's not like I'm going to cancel my pre-order or something, but this really changes how I feel about this game. I'm sure I'll still love it, but I'm not nearly as excited now. I can only hope that Blackwall is the other hetero female romance option.
It's even more heartbreaking that they're basically saying the reason he isn't romanceable is because some people didn't want him to be, which somehow trumps the HUGE fan demand for a Varricmance. It's the same issue with them taking away playersexuality because some people are homophobic; there's a much easier solution without taking away from other people's experience. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO ROMANCE THEM, DON'T. IT'S THAT EASY. Why take away someone else's opportunity to play the game that they want? Isn't that what Bioware games have always been about? Choices? Creating your own unique story? I feel so let down by the one developer I've been so loyal to since I was a little kid. At least I won't have to be so anxious about this game anymore. It makes the wait easier.
Yeah a shy male dwarf...do they exist? It would certainly be interesting...
Which is the point, isn't it? We want a shy LI, not a shy friend, right?
I dunno, I'm one of those people who feel that the romance doesn't begin and end with the romance dialogue. If you're romancing Alistair, and he spends most of his time with you cracking jokes, that's part of the relationship you have with him.

Shyness before the romance even starts can be part of the point, imo.
Nothing wrong with shy friends, either.

Oh that's even better, I doubt Allan gets flowers often ![]()
And that was my 3000th post, it was a nice one yes?

I don't blame you being upset, but I don't think it's because some people didn't want him. It sounded like they had plot reasons to keep him off the LI list.
Edit: But again, I don't blame you being upset. Take your time.

Well, you're not the only one who's disappointed
Here, have a drunk Cersei, it'll make it all better

There are many posts in this thread right now that I'd love to like, but apparently I've liked too much in life.

Even if it wasn't the actual reason, they pretty said emphasized that they took into account "fan feedback." So yea, it does seem like they are using "some people didn't want him" as (one of the) reason.
Also, I want a drunk Cersei.
D:
@N7 RN...I'm with you on the Varric feels, but I give a **** about Solas. ![]()
I'm so sorry y'all aren't getting Varric as an LI. ![]()

Yeah, I don't know, I do find it silly. Varric would remain the Bianca-loving BFF sort for most of my playthroughs, absolutely, but I don't quite follow how it couldn't be written for me and for the Varricmancers just the same. Doesn't seem like a hill BioWare hasn't climbed in the past.
I mean, I know, eight romances this time. Nothing but the best on them for pulling that off, especially if they all end up good. Still, though...
I understand you're upset, but it's not true that they remove playersexuality because of those who are homophobic.THIS IS DEVASTATING NEWS. Really? Well, that's just... great. Not surprising, but... *sigh*
I'm sorry to everyone who wanted to romance Varric (I admit, from the available people left he was quite appealing to me as well). I know some people really like his character and some people wanted the chance for a dwarf/dwarf romance. I wish there was a way to give everyone the LI they want and I hope even if he is tantalizingly off limits the LIs that are available still appeal to those who are disappointed.
I understand you're upset, but it's not true that they remove playersexuality because of those who are homophobic.
Agreed. The fact that Sera and Dorian are outright gay, homophobia doesn't seem to be a factor.

Agreed completely.
Just look at Garrus. Even if you play a female Shepard who doesn't romance him, he's still regarded by many as a good "bro" character. I've never seen anyone complain that Garrus is a romance option, or claim the option takes away from BFF quality.
So to me, it seems they either really misread "fan feedback" or they just didn't want to make Varric a romance and used supposed "fan feedback" as the excuse.
That would be cute. I just hope that when they do a dwarf romance it won't be someone like Oghren... The slooshed drunk thing isn't attractive :/
The only shy male dwarf I've ever met is Ruck..and yeah...the taint.

I think it's more likely the latter, but yeah, either way, it's kind of a shame. Garrus is an excellent example of what I meant.

I dunno, there was... what's his name. The dwarf who set you up for Fenris' recruitment quest.
