Yeah. Was pretty shocked, meself, when they announced 8 romances. Only worried that they'll be as base as DA2 romances are compares to Origins ones. Actually, I am pretty scawed that they will be... with 8 romances. DA2 romances were great but ssooo fewer scenes to Origins.

 

I'm kind of concerned as well -- especially after ME3, which, mind you, I love that game, but it utterly tripped on its feet with its shoes untied and its pants half on and its tie inside-out and its wig loose regarding certain romance threads since there were just so many things to follow through on. I think that's a fairly different situation, and I'm also intrigued by the developer statements that Inquisition is going to handle burgeoning romance stuff more organically (although who's to say at this point how that'll pan out), but it does sort of worry me for some unshakable reason, regardless.

 

It's going to be interesting to see how it pans out. I'll very likely be happy with the game either way, but strong romance content is a Very Good Thing.

I know you've been waltzing around saying this for a long time, but obviously a great many people disagree with you. If that makes you feel like a kind of prophet, or oracle, or what-have-you, then that's fine, and in fact, I always pegged Varric's LI odds at fairly slim, myself, but there's no sense in throwing salt on these hearts. It's going to be misconstrued as trolling and I think you don't mean it that way, I feel like I've seen enough of your posting style over the years to know you're not trying to ****** people off here, but it isn't going to make folks happy as they mourn for the long-shot romance they've just been shot down on.

They're just trying to get a rise out of us because despite being sad , we're keeping it classy as usual. No flaming , we spoke out disappointment (which is mainly focused on how long we had to wait) but no hating on others. Clearly taking it better than the flame war when certain sexualities were posted doesn't please people

I always thought it was unlikely, but it wasn't impossible.

 

And if they'd said he wasn't a romance from the beginning, I still would have been sad when I heard. (Between Varric's awesomeness and fifteen years or so of waiting for a dwarf/dwarf romance ... yeah, it's pretty sad.) Until today, the developers have refused to crush all hope.

So sorry guys, I just heard about Varric. I was hoping for him to be a LI. TBH I was a little more than hopeful after IB was announced, it would have been nice to have at least one romance from each race.

I am not "throwing salt on these hearts". I just remembered about his love Bianca. And since she appeared in comic it was clear there we cannot expect Varric as LI. It was just stubborness from fans to belive in this. And their tears surprize me- no reason for LI and fans are upset now.

I just hope it does do/play better than DA: 2 or else I will say it was a waste of money.

Kind of surprised at Varric not being a romance option.  I don't at all see Solas or Blackwall has potential options, and quite frankly still don't based on what we've seen of them. 

 

Oh well guess my female Dwarf will go without in Inquisition, though I will take the option to gut Bianca if she shows up.  Would rather have Varric leave the party than not be able to romance him.

There seems to have been a bit of uncertainty regarding whether the fan favourite Varric is available for romance. Is it possible to clarify today?

 

Mark: It won't be possible to romance him. But there is a reason for that.

 

Mike: I think this is the first time we say this, so it'll be you who get to face the tears of the fans. He already has somebody, so to speak.

 

Mike: It's something we've been very careful with. When we started developing Inquisition, we really took in feedback from fans and listened close. We went with our hunches about what people seemed to hold dear in the Dragon Age franchise. We know that if we were to remove certain features, we will disappoint a lot of fans. Varric is one such thing. Many fans wish to fall in love with him, while others do not. So as we say 'no' today, that is a 'no' based on a lot of thought.

So.. maybe we'll have a chance to get Varric and Bianca back together, since he "already has somebody". It would just be too sad otherwise. If anyone needs some lovin', it's Varric.
