Even if it wasn't the actual reason, they pretty said emphasized that they took into account "fan feedback." So yea, it does seem like they are using "some people didn't want him" as (one of the) reason.

Hmm. The fan feedback taken into account was likely the supporters. In that it was considered "ia this something we should do with varric?"

Unfortunately that is only a part of the equation. It seems unfair because people will think Cullen was made romanceable because of fan requests and whatnot, but I would downplay the effects of fan feedback in this regard.

Ive been rewatching it lately. Now that I've finished Witch hunt I think I'll watch more now actually.

Oh you're doing a DA replay too? I got through all of Origins and the DLC before I left for vacation and I'm playing through DA2 as male rogue Hawke for the first time. Romancing Anders for the hell of it for the first time too. It's...interesting.

 

YYH is one of those rare shows that I never get tired of re-watching. It's what got me into anime as a kid. I had the biggest crush on Hiei...you know...that explains a lot. Like why I'm so attracted to short men. *cough* Varric *cough*

I'll be honest I felt it was unfair at first that Cullen is a romancable option because he's a fan favorite, while Varric ends up getting friendzoned.

Not everything can be fair, but I feel ya. They had something different in mind for our favorite dwarf.   It stings a bit, but an awesome friendship I can look forward to just like I could have a romance.

I totally understand and respect people's disappointment, but if anything I think their decision to not have Varric romanceable proves that they chose the romances more based around the particular characters and stories they could tell with those characters, rather who's popular.

I think that's it.  Cullen had no previous ties holding him, Varric did.  If Bianca wasn't part of the story, maybe, but if wishes were poppy we'd all be dreaming. 

 

I'm not sure I want to know what the untellable tale of Bianca is, but if they're going to, I hope it's amazing.

It's hard to watch people eating pancakes when the cheesecake store just put up a 'Closed For The Rest of Time' sign, but hey, it's not the fault of the pancake fans. And if Bianca bought all the cheesecake forever, I guess those are the breaks.

 

I've waited patiently for fifteen years, I can wait another fifteen. (Meanwhile, there's some other cake over there that looks pretty good, and I hear there might be waffles, or maybe gelati. It's too early to say.)

Nah, they don't do it on purpose. To be honest, no matter how the romances were handled, some people were gonna be a bit disappointed. Despite the way it got confirmed to us being not so great, they're not being jerks or doing it to be cruel and I can't wait to see him in game and witness the ever-glorious work of his writer in action.

Thank you! There's been a dire need for some hugs today. But I have to admit I would probably feel like I could never compete with Bianca, you know, his real love and I'm talking about the person, not the crossbow. Intensly curious about that story, I do hope he ends up telling it one day. And then my Hawke (or inquisitor) can be there to hug him senseless (in a totally bff kinda way of course) or you know, in a totally unrequited love kinda way.. *sigh*
