*sigh*  I stop lurking for once in 3 years, only to get this news. Sorry for interrupting my favorite thread on the forum, but I needed somewhere, someone to complain to.

 

I'm not sure if I should feel hurt, angry or offended not just at the lack of chest hair - but at the lack of any dwarven romances, yet again.

 

Thing  is I'm short - short enough that on Thedas people would point and shout, "Dwarf!"

-so I'm most comfortable playing one.

 

I'm hurt because Bioware's forums treats us little guys as unimportant or something to laugh at. Hence all those "eww dwarf" comments. Heightism is a thing ya know, and short men get it worse.

 

I am angry because I'm expected to want to play a tall character or romance one - some of us are happy with who we are and prefer to be with people in our own height range.

 

I'm offended by the one option dwarves do get to romance so far...IB - I didn't find his Mayhem tossing funny, I found it abusive to little people, I suppose he's into dwarf bowling too. As a short woman I've experienced this kind of humour personally, big joke to him, nice concussion for me.

 

Anyway, I've derailed you wonderful peeps long enough, so thanks for playing therapist.

So, I recall it being mentioned that we would be able to flirt with someone but that they wouldn't be a romance.... Now I'm wondering if that's Varric? Or did they say that was a non companion? I don't remember.

^ I'm pretty sure it was a non-companion but they did say once we locked in a romance we'd still have access to "friendly flirting" with certain party members. My guess would be that Varric is one of them, just like in DA2.

I wonder about that. I like playing shameless flirts but that statement makes it seem like there isn't much flirting available after being "locked down". I hope that's late in the relationship then. I also wonder if it will be easier to change your mind than in DA2 - in DAO you could break up at any time and go for a different LI and I liked that for roleplaying.

Yeah, I think it was Laidlaw who tweeted it...I read it in the twitter thread awhile back. I specifically remember it because people were complaining about not having jealous party banter anymore. (Since the lockdown prevents us from romancing two characters at the same time.)

I bet we'll get the chance to flirt with a few of the non-romancable companions a couple of times. I mean, you flirted with Aveline a few times but she was too thickheaded to realize what you were doing. If I remember correctly, there was even a single chance to flirt with Varric somewhere and he said he wasn't interested in humans.

I'll have to try for the Alistair/Zevran banter I never got that before (probably because Alistair ninjmances me everytime I'm romancing Zevran ) I only got protective banter when my warden was with Morrigan seems like I've missed a lot I'll have to start dragging him around more so I can catch up on it.

No, no, it seems more like you can't 'lock yourself in' to more than one romance at a time, and when you are locked into one you can no longer try to lock yourself into another one.

 

I think saying flirting might be misleading. Flirt with all the companions! (right up until you enter a committed relationship built on trust and mutual respect) After that, only friendly flirts with some people.

That's what it sounds like. But I wouldn't want to say anything for certain because I am not BioWare or one of it's reps.

Haha, the only time I ever strung two LI's along was in ME2 with Thane and Garrus. I was having a hard time deciding, so I kept flirting with both to keep my options open but I felt so bad about it later! Especially when I had to break it off with Garrus to be with Thane. So, I've never done it again since (in any game).

The only time I ever strung two LI's along at once was in ME2 with Thane and Garrus. I was having a hard time deciding so I kept flirting with both of them to keep my options open but I felt really bad about it later! So, I've never done it again since (in any game).

 

Awww. It works better with some than with others. For example, my canon Warden started things with Morrigan and she said it was casual. Later on Zevran came along and he started that up too and Zevran also said casual. When they weren't happy with it anymore, he chose Zevran and all was well. My shameless flirt Hawke became hard to do because of game mechanics. My intention was casual sex with Isabela then get serious with Fenris but the game didn't let me. So I had to go for Anders and break up with him and that scene was cruel because he was so serious about it already 

 

But sometimes I roleplay a falling out or ending one relationship after meeting a late addition companion.

Im flirting with anything that moves.... still trying to get into nora's pants from the hanged man, but alls she talks about is that damned deep roads expedition....  and something about the champion being humbel enough to enter a low town bar.  Course i also tried to get into hadriana's pants, grand cleric elthina's, mother petrice's, the one chick that anders scared in his personal quest, idunna, that crazy chick i think it was telowne or something from the kerran quest, the other crazy chick grace who wanted us to kill thrask, the crazy elf from black powder courtesy, meredith (even after she became a mummy), hawkes cousin charade (its not weird, im technically not hawke), mistress selby (shes a mistress, cmon), lady elegant, and the nexus golem

Welp. I've been very busy these last few days and only just got the bad new .

 

I'm trying to look on the bright side of things. Combat wise I suppose I'm better off, taking Varric everywhere with me (as I'm apt to do with my LIs) would have made it hard to play with Sera or Cole without unbalancing the party (since I'd also be playing a rogue), romancing Bull or Solas will make putting together parties much easier.
