I'm so glad I'm not the only one who couldn't think of anything good so they just wrote something silly. XD I mean, my answer was honest at least. I wanted in because I'm excited about DA:I.

I really hate when they ask why. Why? Why else would we want it?! So we can play it!

I had other ways, unfortunately she didn't listen to me.

Turning the Circle into Hogwarts isn't another way, its an unfeasible wreck.

Treating Mages as people and not the potential danger they are, is unsafe and puts the entire population of Thedas at risk.

If that's your idea of a "another" way, i can understand why.

Meredith was handed what the Devs admit was likely the worst circle in Thedas, and she had to put up with it and be a leader, she had a corrupt and incompetent first enchanter who subverted her to make the circle look pristine when it was anything but.

Holy crap, that's an awesome idea, I never thought of Hogwarts!  You're brilliant!

And stripping mages of their freedom and giving them little to no rights is better? No matter what it was only a matter of time til the straw broke the camels back. Anders just pushed it forward in a bad way....which is why he's dead In my canon

Better then killing them all? Yes. They are useful, both in peace and war.

And it was the Mages that got their freedom revoked, in the Calling we have a first enchanter and senior magi leaving the tower in Fereldan apparently on a whim without even bothering to consult with the knight commander.

When a prison population misbehaves, you restrict what they can do.

Its simple.

Feel free, if you cannot tell where my allegiance lies it is obvious that we will not sway each other.

But never the less i find myself curious.

I have heard everything from the circle being a boarding school, to being a maximum security lockdown and everything in between.

Where do you fall on it?

OR maybe just maybe they can treat them like humans? Is the circle necessary? Sure but secluding them from family, allowing them to fall in love and be kept in a prison for the rest of their lives? Having a watchful eye is bad per say but what the Templars do is too much

I know we won't, which is why I need to stop myself when it starts. :P

Do you mean what do I think it is, or what do I want it to be? I see it as a luxurious prison that has the admission fee of possible death, I want it to not exist.

As an aside... it is an interesting coincidence that another poster with a staunchly anti-mage attitude also has a Nagato avatar.

So what...just them living among regular people?

No Templars, No training, Nothing?

Templars and training are fine with me. Templars could still be useful for taking care of bad mages, just like cops take care of bad people. I could even go for necessary training, but I'd like to get rid of the lifetime sentence.

That actually makes a rather convincing argument that God doesn't exist, then, as the world is full of dangerous people.  A non-trivial amount of such people thrive.

It's the old freedom vs safety argument.

I tend to lean to protecting the majority, the normal people against the people who can call fire from nothing and can become possessed but i understand the other side.

Its a ...difficult prospect for many people of this generation to stomach, i find it comforting to view it this way.

Would you rather prevent tragedies or clean up their aftermath?

How did we go from discussing the child of prophecy in a manga to discussing the existence of God?

If people in cages become aware that there is so much more than a gilded cage they're going to fight to get out. I understand the use of the Circle and Templars but can't stand that they abuse their authority. There will always be bad mixed in with the good.
I think full fledged freedom is stretching it too far. There are more Templars in a circle then there are mages. Why can't they allow a mage to remain with their families and have a Templar or two live with them... or bring their family to the circle if they wish it. There is always more than a single option no matter how one-sided it seems.

I don't know.  You're the one constantly bringing it up.  Though, if I remember right, Nagato admitted he wasn't actually the child of prophecy by the end of his life.  He was never even meant to have the rinnegan, and was only given them to serve in Madara's scheme.

But yes... this is all off-topic.  Not much more so than a Templar v Mage debate in the Varric thread, though.
