I've been better. Been a bit under the weather the past few weeks and spent most of the morning in the hospital which was...fun. But then I came home tonight I saw we had all sorts of wonderful new people and that cheered me right on up. It's always great to see a new poster in here showing their support.
I'm still finding it strange losing a friend in real life but I am trying what I can.
This thread still gives me enough laughs to move on.

First, welcome lurkers! We always appreciate more support for our favorite dwarf.
Secondly, someone asked what us Varricmancers would do if he isn't available he's race-gated. Well, the race-gate isn't going to phase me because I've been planning on playing a female dwarf for months now. I am a total Shale fangirl and I couldn't resist the tiny connection with the surname Cadash.
If Varric isn't available as a LI, then at this point I'll probably wait to see how I like once I play the game. All of the companions look interesting and attractive to varying degrees for me, but none really trip my trigger like Varric does.
Finally, a song for Varric. For whatever reason, this was going through my head as I was catching up on the thread:

Yeah. If he's race gated for dwarves, thats fine! I am going to play a dwarf either way. I played one in Origins SEVERAL times before I knew about Varric and when there was no dwarf romance. I love the dwarves and being Cadash... I love Shale -pokes signature- So when I found out our dwarfs surname would be Cadash I totally fan girled.
If he's not a romance option...That will make me cry a bit, but I'm still goin to be a dwarf of course. It still may be my first play through because I've been planning either a dwarf or an Elf. I have other interests in Sera and Josephine, but the straight romance that was announce (Cullen) I'm not really excited for so I won't dedicate my first play through to him. We'll see when the other LI's are announced.
I have noticed as I was catching up on the romance thread that there is a lot of support for a Varric romance. Not just "oh, good luck," but folks discussing a little bit about how he would work as a romance. It's a very good thing. 
Yay! A lot of support, I love it.
All it took was us getting a little loud. I knew we couldn't be the last ones on the forums that wanted a Varricmance and sure enough, I was right. Let us hope that we hear more this weekend.
I hope we hear news. I think it's also good that while a few of us were loud, no one had gotten rude about it and shot anyone down. Cause we're some of the classiest fans on bsn.
Haha, we try to be. As time passes, I'm becoming more and more convinced about Varric being a LI. Every time I read someone state why he wouldn't be in, I mentally come up with a counter-argument. I usually don't post it though, because I'd rather not have the romance thread devolve into a bickering match between us and those on the BSN that think we're nuts.
Well, we are nuts, but I don't think we're crazy to think that there is a good chance that Varric's getting in. I also chuckle every time someone says, "Varric is a bro, they wouldn't make him into a LI." You'd think folks would learn not to assume what the DA team is going to do by now. 
Edit: "I want my bromance to remain intact." Right, because making him into a LI would affect the friendship arc. 
I'm wondering if these folks that keep using that awful word "bro" would really feel different if some dwarven women (and maybe men) could romance Varric. I'm betting they would say yes for now, but would probably not give a crap when the game actually comes out.

Amen to that. The only time I've ever said to someone that "No, this romance isn't happening, stop it," was when folks kept asking for a Cole romance.
Saddest part? Some of those folks came up with some (YMMV) decent reasons to have him as an asexual romance, then would proceed to tell those that talked about Varric that he's "still too hung up on Bianca" to have a romance. Some with varying degrees of politeness.
Yes, you read that right: Cole, a spirit/demon thingy with a child-like mind that has the body of an unhealthy man bordering on nearly a corpse, had a better chance according to some posters than Varric.
Varric, who is a full grown adult, definitely a dwarf, extremely hot, very popular and a character that DG had said after DA2 came out would have made a good romance.
Every time some of the more serious nay-sayers try to get me down, I think about DG talking about Varric being a decent romance. The words, "If I had known the way he would turn out," echo through my mind. Now, I know he didn't write Varric, but it gives me some hope.
Again, I just don't understand people sometimes. Cole=plausible; Varric=off the table due to a lost love he hasn't seen in over a decade.
I'm sooo glad that Mike Laidlaw put a stop to the "Cole as a LI" nonsense at the Q&A.

That's one thing I don't get!!! How in the world does Romance possibility ruin friendship side? Do you know what their point is? Do they think they'll lose friendship conversations if he is a romance or do they think him not being their LI would some how effect their type of friendship?? I'm so confused
I'm beginning to think it's some sort of pre-release thing. I wasn't here for the other games, but from what I've been told, it was like this for other games. Folks are just anxious that Group A is going to take away from Group B.
I've done all the romances in DA, except for Morrigan (love her too much like a sister to gender-bend.) I've also done all the friendships and you know what? The romance was merely a bonus to the friendship arc. In fact, the romance arcs didn't add much lines or extra animation, although what they did add took a lot of fine tuning and care. Those little details really mean a lot, but they are just that: little.
I also think some are afraid of seeing Varric change.
The Varricmancers know he's changed, that he's isn't going to be the BFF character. We also know that he's been put through the ringer and banged up. We know he's probably going to be rougher and more caustic around the edges. We know he isn't going to be the same guy. Some of the others that are so against the idea think that he hasn't changed enough.
I've also been told, "You guys just like the idea of a Varric romance, but would you like the reality of it?" That went down as one of the weirdest questions about romance on the BSN/BWF I've read yet. Isn't it just the idea of a romance that people like for characters they don't know? I haven't seen a single other LI group asked that question. Varric's a returning character and while he's changed, it's the reality we like. That kind of question is better suited for those that are interested in companions that aren't returning. Either way, it was unintentionally rude and I found it a little lacking in forethought.

Replace "head shaking" with "head going thud on my desk" and that was my general reaction.
