Varricmancers, I was actually hoping Varric wouldn't be a romance before because I thought he would be straight and that Solas was the best chance for balance. Now neither of us got what we wanted. I'm sorry for you guys, and I feel your pain. 

 

Thank for dropping by to say that, it's really nice of you. I feel the same way, after Varric was ruled out I was wishing the best possible outcome for Solas fans, because they are the sweetest bunch of people (tied with us, of course haha) ... but now Varricmancers and a good chunk of Solasmancers are disappointed, and I'm glad we can at least gain a new empathy for eachother from the situation even though it sucks. I'm sorry about how it turned out -- I really hope you can still enjoy the game

I've been pretty much quiet the last week because classes just started. I was not expecting... basically anything that happened since. And I'm feeling more than a little embarrassed about that rant I wrote earlier.

 

Is it me, or is it starting to look like Blackwall is looking likely as a male/male romance? BIOWARE, ARE YOU TRYING TO GIVE ME AN ANEURYSM?!?

Who knows? At this point I have no idea what to expect. I'm hoping for an unrestricted Blackwall but I'm not betting on it.

I'm still coming back to Iron Bull being race-gated when the writers finished planning things out. But then, my predictions have been basically terrible at this point, so who knows?

Me too. If they were serious about all race/gender/sexuality combos having at least a choice between two romances, then someone has to cover the second male romance option for dwarfs. Otherwise gay dwarfs would only have Dorian and straight females would be left with Cullen. But I have no clue. I may be dead wrong. I could be misinterpreting what they meant.

He is now. But if memory serves he was restricted against dwarfs before they decided to work overtime to fix the animation issues. I love the devs for doing that!

The problem is we'd like unrestricted everyone, and someone's not getting that. I've been thinking about who might be race restricted (which is useless because freaking Solas what the hell, but I'm obsessive, what can I say) and I was wondering if Dorian might be gated for qunari, since the guy is from Tevinter. And I see Dorian/Qunquisitor art all over the place, so that'd seriously suck for a lot of people.

Gaider specifically mentioned gay male dwarves during the BaBR panel. So I'm pretty sure we understand them clearly on that issue. Just not clear what all this means.

 

But we're still not even 100% sure Iron Bull was gated for dwarves in the first place. What if he was gated toward elves? It would make sense from a "anyone who won't break" perspective, dwarves are built tough. What if Solas was the straight option to cover for lady elves? Could that even be a thing?

He was originally race-gated, because of animation issues. But John Epler did a bunch of overtime to get him open for all Inquisitors. Thing is, Epler does his work after the writing team is more or less wrapping things up, so there's a strong possibility we've got romance options to cover for the gaps that would have left in the various races.

And if Blackwall's the last one, I really do hope he's bi. I wouldn't really mind it if he's gay, but if he's straight then I'd feel so bad for everyone else. It's not cool to give straight women the same special treatment that straight men used to have. And I say that as a straight woman! But this is all hypothetical, we're not there yet.

Edit: I don't even mind as much if the last slot goes to Vivienne. She has her fans, good for them if they get her. Making another straight guy would just be irritating.

I hope you're right. When it comes to Vivienne and Blackwall, I would rather have them unavailable than straight.

I'm starting to feel differently than I used to. I used to dislike the "all bi" approach, because of stupid personal reasons... but in truth, I almost wish that were the case now because I'm seeing people so disappointed about their options and it makes me sad. I like the representation of different sexualities and (finally) gay LI's, but I hate seeing people now not as excited for this game because they aren't feeling interested in any romance options.
