Every Doctor is good, and I often find the best one is whoever the current one is   All the recent ones have been excellent and different, some more different than others.  It's always sad to see them go... and always weird and brilliant to get a new one.  Smith had the silly/young/old thing down to a tee.  Tennant was the fun & exuberant but dark puppy   Eccleston was troubled but fun and we'd be nowhere now without him.

 

Capaldi so far as been the most strikingly different to his predecessor(s), and refreshingly brisk with people.  For companions, Donna was as refreshing for difference.  Rose was a good start and worked, but I think suffered a little when we couldn't always see her as being as awesome as the Doctor thought she was, which I think is the cause of much of the hate for her.

I can't STAND Billie Piper...but I ignored the fact that it was her for as long as she was in it and rolled my eyes a lot...

 

I never had a problem with Billie Piper, I thought she was fine. My problem was with Rose's character. I liked her at first when she was with nine, then she went on to be a little too obsessed with the Doctor. And she was absolutely horrible to Mickey! But YMMV. I suppose Amy and Rory are my favorites and I adored Donna. It was nice to have a few companions who didn't fancy the Doctor.

Poor Mickey. Always the second choice and second best. Did not like how they did the pair the spares with him and Martha. I just went REALLY? Rose's left overs again, Martha? I get that they wanted everyone to have a happy ending but that was just weird.

I like the fact that Capaldi's Doctor doesn't bother to hide that he's not really paying attention to people all the time.  Like he says, he likes to catnap on his feet while he waits for people to stop talking so he can get to his bit

I hated that as well. I will never deny that Rose was quite a flawed character and some things about her really bugged me and I can see where people come from on that. I do think she overstayed her welcome there for a little bit and things got a little 'overdone' with her. Also 10's treatment of Martha annoyed me greatly. :/

He did his best to get out of Tin Dog Corner, though, at least for a bit.  I didn't really mind him with Martha; she I thought was really underrated... she was pretty much the only companion who hasn't saved the world (or someone/thing else) with some sort of super power - she did it by telling stories.  And tricking the Master!

But if I'm going to pick a favorite from his run, it would be Donna. With Martha/Rose tied for next. :3 I think perhaps the whole River thing may have ruined Amy and Rory for me a bit... but I did like them otherwise. xD;

x( ugh. I keep hoping one day she will come back into the story and they'll fix it and make it happy. But that's what makes people not like characters (dem cliches and retconns) so I suppose they should just leave it... but... *sniffle*

Amy and Rory were great; I really like River (cos Alex Kingston is awesome) but I get why some people got tired of her.  Which is a shame; might've been better if she'd been used more sparingly perhaps.

I like that at the start of that scene you can see the Doctor knows what he's going to have to do straight off.  There's no hyper-enthusiastic battle against the inevitable with a miracle at the end, just... resignation

I adore Alex Kingston.   I'm just not that fond of that particular character she played. But working with what she had, she did amazing... so I can't complain too much, it could have been someone else (not as good). xD
