Funny you should say that.  There is a real Andraste, the Celtic Warrior Goddess.

:D

I didn't know this and I live in Southern Britain *shame*

I know Irish Celtic Goddesses, but not Southern British ones. I'm kind of intrigued now, imma find Andraste!

Now I feel super connected to Andraste, I didn't need this!  I'm a mage! *shakes fist*

I didn't know it either! That's not saying much though... although I do get a lot of inspiration for names from mythology, so actually it is kinda surprising I haven't come across it at all.

Remember, there are theories that Andraste herself might have been a mage.  ;)

I was very surprised too.  It was also nice seeing a Celtic goddess with a pronounceable name.  Gaelic is a little far removed from the Romantic and Germanic languages for me to wrap my head around.  :P

I feel like I should set out on a pilgrimage to find her sacred grove in Epping Forest...

Nice pic!

Okay, screw the marble statues of her as shown in the Chantry in game.  Most of my DA characters have been agnostic (something's up there for sure, not sure what) but from now on when I picture the Thedas Andraste, I'm going to stick with that painting.

I was thinking the same thing too.

If you do, take some pictures so we can see. :D

That's exactly how I feel now Nat haha, I was all for the old gods but this real version of Andraste is far more appealing to me. :D

It's funny.  I've only played two non-agnostic characters so far in DA.  My Cousland that become a devout follower of Andraste, due to seeing the Ashes.  That was the final bit of proof she needed to confirm her belief in the Maker.  On the other hand, my Dalish had a lot of unshakable faith in the Creators.

I wasn't able to get through the Dwarf Noble origin (only one I haven't played through to the end of the game,) but I can tell you my Casteless didn't have any faith in the Stone.  She's just barely this side of an atheist.  If it wasn't for her trip into the Fade, she would have written off the presence of the Maker, the Creators or the Stone.  Reluctantly she accepted that there was something bigger out there.  And whoever they were, they were jerks to everyone.   :P

This time, my dwarf will probably show some respect for the Maker and Andraste, but will certainly show disdain where possible towards the Chantry.  It seems like Varric believes in the Maker a little more (especially after the comics,) but will probably be closer to my dwarf in terms of belief.

Indeed. I like how colorful this Andraste is. I might actually put a statue or painting in skyhold of her if she has a fun one like that. Right next to my glorious Mabari statue.

I have Irish ancestry and am familiar with a bit of Irish mythology so I knew about about Morrigan, I wasn't familiar with Andraste so that's cool to learn.

I've never heard of her (only of Morrigan) although I've read countless books about mythology, so I 'm very pleased to learn this, thank you ! It's very interesting.

You're quite welcome.   :D

I'm getting curious to see what other real world ties to mythology that the DA writers might have sneaked in on us fans .

I'm not Irish but for some reason all my Celtic Goddess knowledge is Irish, I'm a southerner.

I'd probably need some help with the sacred grove because "somewhere in Epping Forest" is a bit vague :D

It's got a tourist area...and a yacht club now:

http://en.wikipedia....i/Epping_Forest

Drunk Quizzy: VARRIC MY FRIEND, WITH ME TO THE LAKE! LET'S GO YACHTING FOR ANDRASTE!

Varric: Um, Cadash, are you sure you're feeling alright?

DQ: Fine as you please, why you you ask?

Varric: First, try to remind me later exactly what it was Solas offered you to drink.  Secondly, what in blue blazes is a yacht?!?

DQ: A reeeallly big boat, for rich people.  Where they can dance and sing and drink on the water!

Varric: That...sounds like a meeting with the Merchant's Guild.  On water.  Congratulations Cadash, you've managed to give me a bigger nightmare than the Fear Demons.

DQ&Sera (in unison): Biiiig...booooat.

Maybe the other Andraste would guide me if I dressed as Leliana...

They're in Scottish lore as well but we sometimes change the names to a more Gaelic version of it, we tend to share a lot of them.
