Ok.
-----> I'm sure there are a lot of historical/mythological/religious influences we're not aware of in the games. I remember one of the creators for Pillars of Eternity saying in order to create a realistic game universe he read about all sorts of religions, governments, societies. Understanding how they develop and affect the daily lives of the people is important for your game to make sense (especially if it's a role-playing game). I admit I'm paraphrasing and this is in part what I understood from what he said but it makes sense.
-----> Maybe it's just me, but I always saw Andraste fighting against Tevinter because they were slavers that happened to be mages. Would she have fought against them if they weren't slavers? The part of the chant that talks about magic shouldn't rule over man I took to mean specifically those aspects of blood magic used to control others (like Avernus used on the nobles). And a general warning about the misuse of magic and power. I know there are other threads that have discussed the whole Chantry/mage interpretation and history thing so I'm not going to get into it here.
-----> I love Varric. He's one of the reasons my first play-through is going to be a female dwarf. The other reason is because supposedly so few people play dwarves and I wanted to show my support for the dwarves. And she'll be a rogue because for me playing a rogue first gives me a good feel for the game. The hard part is what world state to use first . . . I have 5 that I've played (selected out of too many) and one which will be a lot of choices I didn't want to play and now don't have to. All romances and classes and origins are represented . . . I'm leaning towards my male mage who romanced Morrigan and went through the mirror with her, put Alistair on the throne, destroyed the ashes ---> cousin to female rogue Hawke who romances Fenris and sides with the mages but I'm also thinking of my female noble dwarf who romanced Alistair, kept him a Grey Warden and sided with Branka. Maybe the werewolves too but I'd have to double-check (or I might tweak it that way, it would still be in character for her and I could make sure all my options are covered) ---> male mage Hawke who romances Merrill.
A part of me would like to romance Varric but all in all I'm okay with not doing so. I think I always had in the back of my mind he would be dwarf-centric anyway. And I am so looking forward to hearing him tell my story 6 different ways
.
With 8 romances it looks like I'll be playing at least 8 times if the game is as good as I think it is.
Andraste-------Celtic Goddess of War--------Potentially a mage
Morrigan-------Irish Goddess of War-----------Definitely a mage
Interesting
I remember that Gaider said he did not name Morrigan after the Irish goddess though. He said he wish he did, but in realty he used to LARP with a person who's character was named Morrigan and that's our witch's namesake lol
No idea on Andraste though - EDIT- other than I hope she was a mage lol
I'm out of the hospital and my baby girl is so calm and alert it's creepy. She will clearly be a ninja.
I'm so glad to hear she's calm unlike I was as a baby.
my mother loves bringing that up haha.
@Basement Cat I second the motion

I felt that 'Bluedrake' didn't reflect the depths of my depravity. I am now Her Tenebrous Feline Majesty: Basement Cat!
For my next evil deed, I shall pounce upon Varric's ponytail! Mwahahahaha!

Eh why not.
What do most fans see Varric as, ... manly? hairy? sexy? in my on going effort to try and pin down what people love about characters thus far, and then pin it to music (not written by me obviously lol), this is what im getting from the Varric crowd.
